Inspiration: Through this app, we want everyone to have a chance to be exposed to and explore the STEM field regardless of their age or level, and we also want the young generations to have a resource platform that they can have to explore at a young age. At the beginning of the app we wanted to focus the app on children, however, we figured that regardless of age and level everyone can start learning at any time, and this platform will be the start of their learning path. We also want everyone to build connections through this process, through the multiplayer feature friends and parents can all learn and play together. We are inspired to create this app because we want to provide those that are interested in a STEM career with a place to start.
What it does: This app acts as a resource platform that allows individuals of all ages to learn the basic aspects of each field. We broke down STEM into four categories, science, math, technology, and engineering, and they could choose the section based on their interest. Through the learning and acting aspect of our game, individuals can explore the STEM field in different styles, they can choose to learn it through lesson plans or through playing different games (math, science, technology, and engineering), or a mix. Furthermore, they can also move on to the more advanced level lessons after they have finished the beginner courses, in the advanced level section they can choose to learn more advanced lessons or learn about events related to the field that they can attend. In addition, we also have the experience and event system, in the experience system they would be able to earn experience through completing courses/daily missions/signing in. Once they have achieved a certain level/amount of experience they would be able to dress and change their avatar or exchange for gift cards. The event system on the homepage will also give event recommendations based on their field of interest.
How we built it: We used Figma to create the prototype of our app, through the use of Figma we focused on the user interface and experience aspect of the platform, rather than the actual coding process. Furthermore, we used the prototype connection feature and connected the different pages/icons.
Challenges we ran into: While we were creating the frames and connection in Figma, we weren't able to connect the pages and buttons together. However, we were able to overcome this obstacle by resetting the pages and connections in Figma. We reconnected the pages and figure that there was a problem in the connection setting thus, after resetting everything we managed to make it run smoothly. We also encounter other small challenges such as time management and creating a creative ideas. Therefore, we decided to combine our ideas through Figma and create a prototype for STEM. The theme of education is so broad so it gives us a lot of space to expand our thoughts thus, making great contributions to help everyone benefit from our prototype.
Accomplishments that we're proud of: Our group members work hand in hand to help each other out when using Figma and we were constantly trying to make our prototype better than before. Two of our teammates were never exposed to computer science before but after the hackathon, they gained valuable experiences that could benefit them in participating in other events related to coding.
What we learned : As a team we learn how to create a prototype for an educational app in Figma. In the beginning, most of us have no idea how to transition or connect from one page to the other but now we have smoothen the transition. In addition, we learn how to work consistently by breaking up the workload based on our interest and helping each other when needed. Without the help from each other, our group could not have completed a prototype as successfully.
What's next for STEM Learn : For STEM learn, we want to add more games into the 4 categories (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). We would vary the games from easy to hard to better enhance people's learning because of the different learning paces. To add on, we would add more details such as engaging music and attractive animation for people while they learn.
