Inspiration
Initially games like super monkey ball where an inspiration to us, but later on in the project asymmetrical multiplayer games such as keep talking and nobody explodes guided our design.
Another inspiration is using games as a tool to encourage physical activity in a subtle way. Creating experiences that use movement have the positive benefit of being physically active, although our concept isn't physically strenuous it does involve some movement! Platforms such as Snap are a perfect way to create hyper casual experiences that can provide short bouts of physical activity in a fun manner! In this regards although health and fitness is an inspiration we believe it is more related to the interactive play track.
What it does
Team tilt(ed) is a movement based communication game. One player guides and times the other players movements describing what they see on the screen.
How we built it
Using lens studio mainly using body tracking and the physics system.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into two main challenges.
Firstly our initial aim was to make a super monkey ball esque game with horizontal platforms. Initial testing showed us that we couldn't get enough tilt from the player without causing issues with tracking which in turn cause the physics system to not work correctly. Due to this we make our experience vertical and restricted movements to the arms and leaning left and right only.
Second, it quickly became apparent that a player on their own couldn't play this as for body tracking to work correctly you have to be several feet away from the device, this made the phone screen too small to see.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that we adapted our idea to work with the platform, it would have been easy to quit when the initial idea didn't work!
What we learned
Not necessarily what we learned but more that we are inspired to create playful experiences using snap.
What's next for Team Tilt(ed).
We would love to keep creating playful experiences
