Our team wished to create an innovative app designed to support formerly incarcerated individuals in securing essential resources such as jobs, housing, and other necessities. We want to acknowledge the critical challenge of reintegration into society, and we want our users to feel seen. Recognizing the unique challenges faced by this population, our app provides a comprehensive platform that facilitates access to opportunities, while building a supportive community. App users can personalize their profiles by selecting and displaying their unique interests and personal goals. They are also able to post their stories and repost others’, which fosters the app’s community-building aspect. Thrive Ventures offers access to events, both virtual and in-person, hosted by the users’ mentors and peers. Our app is a holistic solution that not only addresses the immediate needs of formerly incarcerated individuals but also empowers them to rebuild their lives with dignity and support, ultimately contributing to lower recidivism rates and stronger, more inclusive communities.
Our design decisions aim to support and uplift incarcerated individuals by providing the necessary tools and resources. We chose a color palette with warm and welcoming tones to create a positive impact. The home page includes personalized motivational thoughts to inspire users and prominently displays the main features for easy access. We integrated maps and real-time location features to aid in connecting and participating in events. To enhance navigation and user-friendliness, we organized features into categories, especially for events, career-related workshops, and classes. A chat feature and the ability to post updates foster community support. Profile edit pages are designed in categories to help users highlight their skills, interests, and goals. Circular shapes make interactions fun and engaging, increasing user engagement. Overall, our design decisions are focused on providing a supportive and user-friendly experience to help individuals succeed
