The Journey to Transitify

We wanted to tackle the problem of transportation and help people find faster and more convenient ways of getting around, all while promoting green energy. The idea of Transitify was born out of the need to provide people with accessible, affordable, and eco-friendly transportation options.

As we delved into the world of transportation, we discovered that public transport was often a better choice than personal vehicles. It was not only more affordable, but it was also more environmentally friendly. This realization inspired us to create Transitify and promote the use of public transportation to help reduce carbon footprint.

What sets Transitify apart from other navigation apps like Google Maps is its unique approach to transportation recommendations. While Google Maps tends to show the quickest route, Transitify takes into account not only the time but also the cost and carbon footprint of each mode of transportation before making a recommendation to the user. This means that the recommended option is not necessarily the fastest, but the best option in terms of cost, time, and environmental impact.

We started our journey by learning Dart and Flutter, a programming language and a framework that we were not familiar with. The learning curve was steep, but we persevered and finally managed to build our first working prototype of Transitify which focuses on the city of Atlanta.

The main challenge we faced was integrating the Google Maps API with Flutter. We had to spend countless hours researching and experimenting before we finally got it to work. The end result was a beautiful and functional map that showed the user an efficient route to their destination.

Although the full potential of Transitify has not been realized yet due to the limited time and the steep learning curve, we aim to make it easier for people to switch to public transportation, reducing their carbon footprint and helping the environment. Our vision is to create a world where transportation is accessible, affordable, and eco-friendly for all.
