Inspiration

In early 2019, several social media users began to go viral showing photos after cleaning up areas with large amounts of trash. This created a challenge known as the #Trashtag Challenge. The challenge encouraged social media users all around the world to act on a large amount of trash surrounding them. Our team wondered if this idea could be translated to multiple environmental sustainable practices.

What it does

TreeHab allows its users to save a virtual tree by completing the real-life task that helps the environment. The user begins by choosing a tree which is linked to the path. Each path is tied to certain initiatives such as water conservation and clean energy. Users then complete task related to their chosen path. As task are completed the once dying tree begins to show life. By the end of approximately a week of environmentally sustainable task, the user is presented with a revived tree. As the user revives more trees through their use of the app, they acquire points. These points can be used to redeem deals and rewards from our partners.

How I built it

We built the app with React-Native.

Challenges I ran into

Some of the challenges we ran into include learning as we created.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

We are proud of creating a revolutionary app that will help better the environment and educate our peers.

What I learned

We learned about how we can better the environment, React Native IDE, and current environmental efforts that can better assist us.

What's next for TreeHab

In our next update, we plan to create a feed that will allow people to post pictures of them completing tasks to encourage people in the area to complete the task. As well, we would partner with non-profits in different areas that are having major envirmoental activities to encourage them to attend.
