A device designed to deter thieves from stealing your package.

Inspiration

With the rise of online shopping, package theft has become an increasingly common problem. We wanted to create a solution that not only protects deliveries but also deters thieves in a clever way. Inspired by security systems and smart home devices, we set out to build something immediate and a little amusing.

What it does

When a package is placed on Trident, it arms itself. If the package is removed without proper disarming, it triggers a surprise deterrent for the thief that includes a song and a picture message.

How we built it

We combined limit switches and 2 microcontroller to detect when a package is lifted. The device is connected via Wi-Fi with an ESP32 CAM. To deliver the “surprise,” we integrated a funny song and a picture motion via servos and piezo buzzer.

Challenges we ran into

  • Calibrating the weight sensor to accurately detect when a package is placed.
  • Connecting all components together (the buzzer, camera, and microservo).

What we learned

We learned the importance of making sure components work together before assembling. We also learned that teamwork is very important.

What's next for Trident

We would like to improve the deterrent system with customizable options (sound, light, spray, etc.).
