Inspiration

I was inspired to work on this project because I had a neighbor who was deaf/mute and I didn't know about it. One day, there was a fire in our housing complex. She was trying to communicate with me but it was difficult because we had to use a lot of random hand gestures and motions, as I did not know sign language. I thought that there should be a simpler way to communicate.

What it does

Translates Sign Language to Text and Speech to Text.

How I built it

I built an iOS app using Xcode and trained a machine learning model with a data set of 87000 pictures. I trained it in Create ML.

Challenges I ran into

Training the model was the biggest challenge.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I feel this project is going could have a big impact for society, if done right.

Improve the machine learning model with more datasets and probably make it available for public.
