Inspiration

As current University students, we had a hard time choosing which Universities to apply to. This gave us inspiration for an app to streamline the process using a dating app style model.

What it does

UniMatch lets you easily swipe through profiles of colleges and universities, filtering by location, size, research output and more. Get personalized recommendations using our proprietary algorithm. Left swipe to skip a university and right swipe to match with it.

It's the perfect way to streamline the college search process and find your perfect match!

How we built it

uniMatch is a full stack web application with a Vue.js and Firebase back-end. We designed the front end using the Vuetify material design framework from a mobile-first perspective. Users sign in using google authentication and after entering their preferences are shown profiles of prospective universities sequenced by our algorithm that uses a score-based rating system.

Challenges we ran into

Finding an efficient database of universities was initially a challenge. Additionally, the free tier of Firebase was a huge limiting factor in the storage and querying of the vast amount of data used for every user.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The optimized data handling as well as a smooth running user interface were our proudest achievements for this project.

What we learned

Using vue.js for the project expanded our knowledge much further about the framework. We learnt how to better organize our work and function in a team.

What's next for uniMatch

uniMatch is currently still limited by the amount of university data we could get from the public domain. In the future, we hope to include more niche user preferences like GPA, SAT Scores, costs, weather and more.
