Inspiration

Networking events, conferences, and summits are full of people who should have a good connection "on paper" - same industry, same interests, same goals - but once the conversation starts, the interaction just does not click. We wanted to explore whether personal psychology and conversational compatibility research could help people identify stronger social and professional matches before investing time into awkward or low-synergy interactions.

What it does

VibeSummit estimates conversational compatibility between people at networking events using estimated OCEAN personality profiles derived from an image-based heuristic assessment.

Instead of requiring users to fill out long personality questionnaires, our system performs a lightweight image-based personality assessment to estimate: Openness, Conscientiousness, Extraversion, Agreeableness, Neuroticism Using these estimated personality vectors, our compatibility engine predicts how naturally two people may interact.

The platform evaluates dimensions such as: conversational flow, emotional comfort, interaction depth, social energy, long-term conversational stability The goal is not just to match people with similar careers — but to help users discover: “Who am I actually likely to vibe with?”

How we built it

Cursor+ChatGPT and VIBES. ReactJS app created using AI-assisted coding.

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges was translating complex human interaction dynamics into a simplified but believable compatibility model.

Human chemistry is highly nonlinear: similarity helps in some traits, complementarity helps in others, some interactions depend heavily on context

Another challenge was designing a personality assessment that was quick, usable in a networking-event setting, without forcing users through lengthy psychological questionnaires.

We also had to balance hackathon constraints and interpretability, while avoiding an opaque “black box” experience.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud that VibeSummit reframes networking around interpersonal compatibility instead of just professional overlap. We are also proud that the system produces interaction predictions that often feel surprisingly natural and relatable. The system was also built super quick, so there is a lot of room to grow.

What we learned

One major insight was: compatibility depends more on interaction dynamics than isolated personality traits.

We also learned:

  • users strongly prefer fast and intuitive onboarding
  • explainability matters a lot in psychologically inspired systems
  • even simple heuristic models can generate compelling social predictions
  • conversational chemistry is multidimensional and context-sensitive

What's next for VibeSummit

We can include actual scientific psychological research, include live conversation feedback, NLP-based conversational alignment, interaction pacing analysis, adaptive matchmaking during events, team and group compatibility modeling and personalized networking recommendations.
