Inspiration

Navigating healthcare can be confusing, especially for students and individuals who may not have easy access to clear, reliable information about coverage or services. We wanted to create a platform that simplifies this process and helps users find the right care without frustration. That inspiration led us to build Wellify.AI, an intelligent healthcare navigation assistant designed to make understanding and accessing healthcare resources intuitive, transparent, and personalized.

What it does

Wellify.AI combines accessibility with smart AI guidance to help users quickly find relevant healthcare resources in one place. Through a conversational interface powered by Amazon Bedrock, users can chat with an AI assistant that answers health-related questions and extracts key information from their insurance documents. This allows them to easily see which facilities, services, or specialists are covered under their plan- all within a clean, interactive interface. Beyond insurance guidance, Wellify.AI helps users take immediate action. The platform connects to ride and delivery networks (Uber and Lyft) to provide directions and pickup options to nearby covered health centers, and integrates with food and delivery services (Instacart and DoorDash) for meal delivery when rest is recommended. For prescriptions, Wellify.AI uses APIs from retail and pharmacy partners (Walgreens and Amazon Pharmacy) to surface drug availability, pricing, and ordering options. A symptom search tool uses AI classification to assess urgency and recommend the best next step- whether that’s visiting a campus clinic, urgent care, or managing the issue at home- and the symptom input supports speech-to-text so users can describe symptoms verbally and receive instant, LLM-powered recommendations.

How we built it

We built Wellify.AI using a React-based frontend connected to a FastAPI backend for efficient data flow and scalability. User authentication and identity management are handled by Amazon Cognito to keep personal health and order data secure. For AI features, we use Amazon Bedrock for the chatbot and information extraction pipelines, and a separate LLM on SageMaker for deeper reasoning and the symptom-classification engine (including speech-to-text processing). Third-party integrations are implemented as modular API connectors. We query Uber and Lyft for routing and ETA data, Instacart and DoorDash for food delivery options, and Walgreens and Amazon Pharmacy for prescription lookup and ordering. These connectors handle OAuth, rate limiting, and secure token storage so users can take action directly from the platform without exposing sensitive credentials. Insurance documents are parsed into structured insights that the AI references when recommending covered providers or cost-conscious alternatives.

Challenges we ran into

Coordinating multiple external APIs while preserving security and a consistent UX was one of the biggest challenges- each partner has its own auth flow, rate limits, and data formats. Ensuring accurate symptom classification across text and voice inputs required careful model design and iterative testing. We also focused on keeping the UI lightweight and fast while supporting real-time calls to both internal AI services and third-party endpoints.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We built a fully functional prototype that ties together secure authentication, real-time insurance insights, voice-enabled symptom classification, and actionable third-party services for rides, food, and prescriptions. The result is a practical, end-to-end flow: from recognizing symptoms to recommending care and arranging logistics- all within one, approachable interface.

What we learned

We learned how to safely orchestrate multiple AWS services (Bedrock, SageMaker, Cognito) alongside third-party APIs, and how to design voice-first user flows for healthcare contexts. We also gained practical experience handling OAuth, rate limiting, and privacy considerations necessary for connecting to commerce and transportation platforms.

What's next for Wellify.AI

We’re excited to expand Wellify.AI with more advanced features, stronger integrations, and greater personalization to make healthcare navigation even simpler.
