Inspiration

As Canadians, we have personally experienced the detrimental impact of wildfires on our air quality in Toronto. This firsthand experience has ignited a passion within us to raise awareness and educate others about this pressing issue. Our goal is to empower individuals with knowledge about wildfires and their far-reaching consequences, ultimately inspiring collective action toward finding effective solutions.

What it does

The Wildfires website serves as a comprehensive resource hub that provides valuable information on wildfires, including prevention, safety measures, and post-fire recovery. It offers educational materials, tips, and guidelines to help individuals and communities mitigate the risks associated with wildfires.

How we built it

To develop the Wildfires website, we used html, css, and js. We designed an intuitive user interface to ensure easy navigation and access to relevant information.

Challenges we ran into

A week before this hackathon, my partner and I both had extremely minimal knowledge of web development, including html and css. We spent the past week following numerous YouTube tutorials so that we could create a website that we were proud of. Additionally, designing an engaging and user-friendly interface while maintaining a balance between providing comprehensive information and keeping it concise was another challenge we faced.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of: Being able to create a user-friendly and informative website that promotes awareness and understanding of wildfires that works Creating the parallax effect seen at the top of the page Creating organic dynamic and interactive components Incorporating interactive components

What we learned

Throughout the process of building the Wildfires website, we deepened our understanding of the complexities surrounding wildfires. Not only this, but everything listed in accomplishments was new to us and therefore what we have learned.

What's next for Wildfires

Before the creation of the website, my partner and I had planned to create an ambitious plan to create a quiz and forum section of the website, where we realized we did not have enough time to complete it. We may continue with this after the hackathon, and we may post this website online after some finalization.
