With You is a project that hopes to accompany you during the process of getting appointments, diagnosis and treatment for breast cancer.

Purpose & Motivation

Despite improvements in early detection and treatment for breast cancer, women of color continue to have the highest breast cancer mortality rate (source).

Women of color may:

  • Be less likely to get high-quality and timely breast cancer care
  • Have more barriers to treatment and prevention

With You aims to lower the barriers to treatment and prevention to people of color, therefore decreasing mortality rates of minorities.

Our purpose is to make you feel secure, visible and respected.

How this application works

Reviews on With You evaluate how the patient felt in the clinic.

We ask 2 important questions:

  • How comfortable did you feel?
  • Did you feel like your concerns were heard?

and an average of the two ratings will be displayed. Users are able to expand the rating to get more details.

Currently, clinics will be added by users but we will explore using Google Maps API to integrate existing clinics in the future.

Difficulties & Challenges you faced

There was a lot of difficulty in arranging a meeting due to our different timezones. We have members from Argentina, Brazil, India, Singapore and the United States. Collaborative tools like GitHub and Figma definitely helped our team stay updated and contribute effectively.

Another difficulty we faced was narrowing the scope of our project as there were a lot of ideas we wanted to explore, but could not due to the limited timeframe of the hackathon. We finally decided on a review app for women of color to look for empathetic and accessible clinics as it addressed the disparity in mortality rate.

Go-to-Market Evaluation

We will explore a freemium model where paid users are able to access extra features like checkup reminders, journalling and self-screening (more prospective features are listed below). Fees will be kept to a minimum as it is not our intention to monetise the app - accessibility is still a priority for us!
