Inspiration

In today's hustle and bustle world, it's not too uncommon to find ourselves caught up in our work and study so much that we forget to take care of our health. Drinking water is among the simplest and easiest way to keep ourselves healthy and energetic throughout the day, yet we so often take it for granted. As a result, we decided to build this mobile app to remind people of the importance and the benefits that staying hydrated brings to our physical and mental well-being.

What it does

WooTah allows users to set a goal of how much water they want to drink during the day and track their water drinking habit by inserting their amount of water intake. Wootah also gives its users suggestions on how much water they need to drink in order to meet their goals/needs.

How we built it

WooTah was built using the multiple tools and widgets offered by Android Studio to develop mobile applications. The main programming language used was Java.

Challenges we ran into

While building WooTah, we ran into a variety of technical problems that involve debugging and testing (NullPointerException, anticipating and parsing user input, etc.).

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Despite numerous challenges, we were able to accomplish all user stories agreed upon in the beginning and produce a well-functioned mobile app with an intuitive, elegant UI.

What we learned

We learned a lot from going through the whole process of planning and building a product from scratch. Besides sharpening our technical skills, we also successfully honed our communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills under the pressure of time.

What's next for WooTah

In the future, we expect to implement various features, including but not limited to data visualization of user's monthly water drinking pattern, creating a network that allows users to share their achievements with friends and families through social media platforms, setting up alarms to remind users to drink water throughout the day. We also hope to add a feature that allows users to take a picture of their daily tumbler/water container to generate a better, more accurate estimate of their regular amount of water intake. We are also looking forward to receiving feedback from users of our app to navigate practical strategies that improve our app's usefulness and performance to more and more people.
