Inspiration

We envisioned this idea because there have been times when we planned to work out at a gym and the gym equipment there didn't adapt to our specific requirements. So, we had to plan an entirely different workout right then and there without the knowledge about the equipment the gym offered. To solve this, we created this project where users can see different equipment at a gym and filter them by the muscle they want to exercise. Also, being beginners, we felt shy to ask many questions about various topics relating to our workout. To solve this, we also thought to include a community forum to allow users to interact with each other within categorized channels. This is the story about our creation.

What it does

Our website has 2 main features:

  1. We help you see possible workouts based on the equipment present in the particular gym that you choose. We also let you choose the muscle set you wanna work on and give you all the possible exercises.
  2. We also allow users to participate in a community where they can have discussions with each other within categorized channels. This helps people by making them feel much more relaxed when they have doubts about something.

How we built it

We first brainstormed a few ideas and tried to narrow them down based on feasibility. After we decided to go through with the WorkItOut idea, we began creating schemas for our models, designs for our webpages, and pseudocode for our functions. We then created a GitHub repository so that each of us could collaborate on the project at the same time. Then, we began programming the schemas, designs, and pseudocode. After completing the programming part, we ran tests and found some users to try our website to get more genuine and honest feedback. After cleaning and checking the project for the last time, we were done.

Challenges we ran into

The first challenge for us was to participate in this Hackathon. None of us had experienced a Hackathon before and we were really skeptical about it. However, since we knew that this was a potential beneficial opportunity for us, we went ahead with it. But, by the time we had decided on our topic, we only had a few hours left and it was already midnight. We worked on it all night, consumed ample amounts of caffeine, and finally finished it at 8 AM after which we were left to begin working on the video. We were very tired but somehow made it through and finished the video.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud to have successfully completed the project without deviating from the actual idea we put on paper. We are proud to participate in our first-ever Hackathon. We are proud of our commitment to the project. We are proud to have displayed and actually use all the things we learned in school. We are proud to have completed the project in time.

What we learned

We learned skills like Collaboration, Compatibility, and Time-management. We learned that it takes effort to make things happen and make your project from a mere idea to an actual website. We also finally learned the organization of thoughts and tasks. We maintained a Kanban board on a shared notion page and we each chose tasks to swiftly complete them.

What's next for WorkItOut

We plan to add more gyms to the database. For now, we only have gyms around the Drexel area, where most of the students go to. We also wish to add more Forums and more channels within them. We also want to involve health experts like nutritionists or therapists so that the responses are much more credible.
