Inspiration

The Capital One developer API inspired the team to create the project alongside classic retro-style RPG’s.

What it does

The project is an adventure game based on classic RPG’s. The player controls the main character via arrow keys and encounters various NPC’s including a final boss. Players interact with other characters via dialogue and certain choices.

How we built it

The project was developed in Python using Pygame. Capital One’s developer API was used for the financial data logic within the game.

Challenges we ran into

Due to limited experience in Pygame, the team encountered minor setbacks and therefore had to set aside time to become familiar with the framework. Despite this, the team has programmed in Python before and eventually the project was underway.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Developing a game from scratch within a short timeframe including creating some artwork to use as backgrounds and sprites. Additional unit testing was used within the codebase for testing the API implementations.

How to create a project in Pygame and integrating an API into the game.

What's next for YeOldeCredit

Adding additional mechanics such as inventory management, player health and scores. Other improvements may involve adding sound effects or background music to increase player immersion.
