Inspiration
Last December, I traveled to different malls in Metro Manila. I have seen destitute children begging for food on the streets while others enjoy sumptuous dinners. I believe "Education" has been the line separating these two groups. This pains me that not everyone has the financial capacity for education. Coding should be for all, and no wannabe child should be left behind!
What it does
YourJS offers free Javascript courses to all who are wannabe javascript users. It is a nonprofit platform that helps and guides young minds to become front-end developers. The app's main goal is to improve the lives and technical skills of Filipinos living in poverty.
How I built it
Using Figma for the design and HTML, CSS, and JS for the coding part of the website and Netlify to host it online. Making it available to everyone.
Challenges we ran into
Since this is a sample app, there are specific inputs that you need to type to join the course. When you log in, you need to input the following: Username: user1 Email: user1@gmail.com Password: yourjs
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I am proud to support wannabe young coders along the way in their education. Being educated in YourJS is an accomplishment that is one step to reality. The reality of educating young minds, especially those living within the poverty line, in coding will equalize the opportunity in education and help them become successful.
What I learned
I learned that coding education could be a vehicle for overcoming poverty. Hence, the creation of YourJS.
What's next for YourJS
Finishing (making it more fun and interactive for learning) and marketing YourJS to give every children the opportunity to learn how to code.
