The National Cluster for Sustainable Mining and Associated Services of the Iberian Peninsula (ISMC) – Spain. ISMC is leading the project coordination with a dedicated team characterized by robust technical skills and extensive experience in EU projects (WP1). ISMC brings valuable expertise in sustainable mining exploration and CRM sectors. Furthermore, ISMC will spearhead the efforts in the Dissemination, Exploitation, Communication, and Clustering Work Package (WP8). Leveraging its extensive networks, ISMC is well-positioned to excel in stakeholder engagement. ICAMCYL is a non-profit research foundation created by the automotive, manufacturing, advanced materials, mining and processing of raw materials sectors of Castilla y León (Spain). ICAMCYL acts as the Regional Innovation Network, linked to many European municipalities and various industries. It contributes to two Strategic European Alliances and industrial platforms, related to advanced materials for batteries and mining. ICAMCYL is specialized in innovation procurement: its expertise extends to mineral & strategic resources, advanced raw materials & industrial technologies, energy storage, capture, storage and re-use of CO2. With a strong presence in the European Innovation Platform of Raw Materials (EIP Raw Materials) and key EU initiatives like MIREU (“Mining and Metallurgy regions of EU”), ICAMCYL contribute significantly to the fields of circular economy and raw materials processing and reuse.

Leveraging its extensive network, ICAMCYL will take on the responsibility of leading clustering activities enabling and promoting EU and global replicability of the project results and overseeing international integration and multi-stakeholder engagement. With a strong emphasis on collaboration and inclusivity, ICAMCYL is well-equipped to foster connections and engagement with various stakeholders on an international scale and multi–stakeholder engagement with relevant EU projects, European clusters and S3P mining regions, and will manage connection with the Raw Materials Information System (RMIS). ICAMCYL’s broad network positions them as a key contributor to building partnerships and promoting collaborative efforts that align with the project’s overarching goals.

EREVNITIKO PANEPISTIMIAKO INSTITOUTO SYSTIMATON EPIKOINONION KAI YPOLOGISTON (ICCS) – Greece. The Institute of Communication and Computer Systems (ICCS) of the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) was founded in 1992 following a roadmap to support the performance of top-quality research, development and the provision of scientific service to private and public bodies. ICCS-NTUA progress in disciplines of electrical and computer engineering, has led to successfully achieve its set goals and grow to a competent research institute in Greece and Europe. Also, ICCS has outstanding expertise in smart systems, data science, mobility, software engineering, and extended reality in various sectors such as construction and mine industries as well as fostering engagement through immersive technologies. In addition, in line with DEXPLORE project, ICCS is experienced in ΕΟ services for mining and the exploration of deep deposits. ICCS is very active in programs financed by the European Commission with substantial participation in competitive research programs. Up to date ICCS has participated in more than 230 projects (FP6, FP7), 76 projects of Horizon 2020 (e.g. TERRAVISION, MASTERMINE, THEROS) and in more than 500 national projects (ESPA, etc).

ICCS, with a highly balanced team, will lead the WP3 devoted to the development of Level 2 – Remote Sensing for surface exploration. Specifically, ICCS will oversee mineral exploration using remote sensing data (Copernicus) deploying EO solutions for the mining industry targeting deep land CRM and SRM. Moreover, ICCS will play a key role for developing the Level 4: Visualization and interaction platform (WP5) by adding the XR tools considering the GIS platform specifications and architecture. During the establishment of spectral signatures of the targeted CRM/SRM being supported via the deployment of hyperspectral cameras in-situ, ICCS will participate with its Affiliated Entity COGNISENSUS.

COGNISENSUS builds technologies that allow better sensing, data modelling, visualization and/or actuation, supporting the operation, decision or training in complex environments. As one of the I-SENSE/ICCS spin offs, it exploits cutting edge research to advance technologies and services in Environment, XR and Industry 5.0.

COGNISENSUS will support ICCS in the activities related to hyperspectral imaging and the development of the related spectral libraries as part of activities in WP3. COGNISENSUS shall also provide datasets already developed and could be used as reference for the development tasks and for testing purposes.

UNICA is involved in the actions dedicated to surface exploration and particularly on the development of new techniques and optical devices leading T3.2 and actively participates in T3.3. Also, UNICA will support coordination (WP1) and communication and dissemination (WP8) activities. The research group is constituted by 4 full staff people of the Physics Department of the University of Cagliari and share its laboratories at the Department of Physics and the large-scale facilities at CESAR (UNICA): Pier Carlo Ricci (Associate professor), Riccardo Corpino (Associate Professor), Stefania Porcu (Assistant professor) and Chiara Olla (Assistant professor) – performing activities related to the experimental implementation and development of optical techniques and devices.

CORE Innovation Centre is a fast-growing private R&D organisation focusing on delivering Industry 4.0 technological solutions to empower industrial operations with next-generation solutions – deep learning, IoT, edge computing, cloud computing -, sustainable practices and a human-centric approach. In an era where data serves as the main driver of industrial processes, CORE’s strategic response to this paradigm is the implementation of cloud middleware, synergized with a data warehouse, utilizing cutting-edge equipment and state-of-the-art infrastructure. DEXPLORE ROLE
CORE IC, with a predominantly female team, will be leading the development of the Visualization and interaction platform (WP5) working alongside the different information levels’ working groups (WP2 to WP4) to define an optimal UX and user interface including VR capabilities by collaborating with ICCS. CORE will also collaborate on the integration of the different agents and the platform with the front-end system. Furthermore, during the final in-field validation (WP6) CORE will actively participate in the validation of the platform and the Social License to Operate as well as the last finetuning of the platform according to the validation results (T6.3, T6.4). CORE support during the Dissemination, Exploitation, Communication and Clustering activities is also included (WP8).

In the DEXPLORE project, the Department of Geology with its Division of Mining and Mineral Technology is leading WP2, Level 1 – Mineral system approach for deep-land exploration of primary CRM, with Dr. Tony Hand (Sustainable Mining Project Manager) leading the team. The researchers Sophie Graul, with key expertise in metallogeny and Juan Solano, an expert in geophysics and geochemistry, and Tarmo All, a geologist and expert on Estonian resource development and the circular economy, complete the TalTech team. In WP6, TalTech will also play a key role in arriving at the final Estonian mineral model.
Also, TalTech’s connections with other universities, such as Oulu in Finland and Trinity College in Ireland, will strategically strengthen the Advisory Board (WP8).

MNLT leads the Sustainability Assessments for the DEXPLORE project (WP7), focusing on data compilation, scenario definition, and conducting LCA, LCC, and Social LCA analyses using licenses for the professional SimaPro software, the Ecoinvent database, and the PSILCA social database to evaluate the environmental, economic, and social impacts of the project’s innovative technologies. Additionally, MNLT drives the development of the exploitation strategy (WP8), which includes performing market analyses, conducting techno-economic analyses, and drafting a comprehensive business plan, thereby ensuring the long-term financial sustainability and marketability of the project’s outcomes.

TerraDat is leading the WP4 dedicated to Level 3 – Subsurface exploration (deep land) – Geophysical exploration, bringing innovation with its land-based “passive seismic method” based on seismic noise. Moreover, TerraDat brings expertise in Petrophysics, which is a key asset in the initial stages of geophysical exploration (WP2). In WP5, TerraDat will be supporting XCALIBUR with the 3D geological modelling while in WP6 is having a significant role during the geophysical campaign in Estonia and the passive seismic data acquisition and interpretation. Its participation in dissemination and communication activities is also included (WP8).

XCALIBUR will work on Level 3 – Subsurface exploration (deep land) – Geophysical exploration (WP4) by optimizing and testing its novel unmanned aerial vehicle airborne gravimetry. Moreover, XCALIBUR will lead the important task of adding the 3D Modeling into the Visualization and interaction platform (WP5) with the support of TerraDat. Additionally, in WP6, devoted to the technology final validation in Estonia, XCALIBUR is having a significant role during the geophysical campaign and the UAV gravity data collection and interpretation. Its participation in dissemination and communication activities is also included (WP8).
EESTI GEOLOOGIATEENISTUS (EGT) – Estonia. The Geological Survey of Estonia, under the administration of the Ministry of Climate, operates in the following areas: a) geological mapping and surveys, b) ensuring access and preservation to geological information, c) government authorities advise, d) public information about concerning earth’s crust topics.
Given EGT comprehensive research in ore geology, including recent deep exploration drillings in NE Estonia, N Estonia, and Central Estonia, EGT has acquired new geological material including new drill hole geophysical logging. EGT latest technological advancement involves an extensive crystalline rock drill core scanning – Geotek. Moreover, EGT has experience as an EU project coordinator, with the EGT-TWINN project (Horizon Europe funding program) dedicated to develop advanced geological, geochemical, and geophysical survey skills, data management workflows, and subsurface modeling capability for exploration and geological resource assessment of European critical raw materials and geothermal energy – the future potential green energy source for Estonia. On the other hand, EGT is working closely with experts from leading international research institutions such as the Geological Survey of Finland, the British Geological Survey, the Geological Survey of Denmark, and the University of Oulu Mining School.
DEXPLORE ROLE
EGT is participating in Level 1 – Mineral system approach for deep-land exploration of primary CRM, collaborating with TalTech in the integration of existing Estonian geological information. Importantly, the EGT is making available for DEXPLORE the Arbavere Field Research Station (ca. 70 km from Tallinn) containing all drill cores historically drilled in Estonia, basic field research equipment, drill core study facilities and a small conference center (up to 50 people) as well as advanced equipment as the Geotek MSCL-XYZ Workstation, high resolution line-scan camera with ASD spectrometer, Geotek XRF instrument and magnetic susceptibility sensor. In addition, EGT is leading the critical WP6 dedicated to the final validation of DEXPLORE technology leading also the Final Estonian mineral model – Data interpretation and resource assessment. On the other hand, DEXPLORE foresees EGT active participation in the liaison with other Geological Surveys (EU and non-EU) for promoting the project results and their scalability (in line with the goals of the topic – Increase the resources and reserves; Accelerate development of EU domestic exploration projects integrating innovative technologies; Strengthen EU autonomy and ethical sourcing by developing socially and environmentally acceptable means of discovery of primary RM; Improve responsible supply to the EU in line with the EU principles for sustainable RM (WP8).

ATALAYA RIOTINTO MINERA SL (ATM) – Spain. ATM is a fast-growing mining and development European company listed in the London Stock Exchange’s Main Market (Premium Segment) under the symbol “ATYM” which produces copper concentrates and silver as by-product. ATM’s main operation is Riotinto, which started in 2015 with an approach adapted to the most demanding standards in terms of sustainability and efficiency, reaching today a mine that processes approximately 15 million tons of ore/year to produce 250k tons of concentrate (55k tons of copper). This mine has become a driving force for the region, which has led to the socio-economic revitalization of the Riotinto Mining Basin. ATM is also exploring the nearby ore bodies, where it is possible to add value through breakthrough technologies such as the E-LIX system (owned by Lain Technologies) that would maximize the value of complex sulphides in the Riotinto District and the Pyrite Belt. The evaluation of high-grade brownfield ore bodies increases options and mine life.
Moreover, ATM’s current operations include the Cerro Colorado open pit mine and a modern 15Mtpa processing plant, which has the potential to become a processing hub for owned regional projects and other external mines in the Andalusia region. ATM is also evaluating external opportunities that leverage core capabilities such as the new prospects in Pyrite Belt as Masa Valverde, the Proyecto Touro in Galicia and in other safe mining jurisdictions.
ATM strives to become a leading multi-asset copper producer in Europe, maximizing the potential value of its current low-cost, low- risk assets and further exploring new opportunities.
DEXPLORE ROLE
ATM role is based on its active participation during WP4 and specifically in the calibration pilot at AMT’s Masa Valverde Mine (Iberian Pyrite Belt – Devonian volcanic and sediment-hosted massive sulphide (VSHMS) – pyrite, chalcopyrite, sphalerite, galena and cassiterite. Disseminated Cu, Zn, Pb), providing also existing geological information about petrophysics, geochemistry, mineral characterization, and ore models. Furthermore, ATM will also participate in the activities leading to increase the awareness of the general public about the importance of the CRM in the European Energy Transition (WP6 and WP8).
MINERALES Y PRODUCTOS DERIVADOS S.A (MINERSA) – Spain. MINERSA is an international group of companies that produces more than 1M tons/y of minerals and chemical products. Specifically, the fluorspar has been the backbone of MINERSA production activities since its early days, >70 years ago in Spain, continuously producing from a significant number of fluorite mines. Today, MINERSA is combining production in Spain and South Africa, standing as the World 2nd largest producer of acid grade fluorspar. MINERSA has a dedicated metallurgical research lab (CIM) to profit from, and to increase its unique wealth of experience in fluorspar mining and processing. Thanks to all the above and the daily work of the on-site production teams, MINERSA has earned a reputation as one of the most reliable and solid fluorspar producers in the world. In the commercial side, MINERSA treasures the largest customer base in acid grade fluorspar with customers located around the globe and in all market niches.

MINERSA role is based on its active participation during WP4 and specifically in the calibration pilot at MINERSA’s Fluorite Mine (Limestone between 500–600m and probably deeper along the contact between the limestone and the coverage) generating new geochemical data as needed and mainly providing existing geological information about petrophysics, geochemistry, mineral characterization, and ore models thanks to MINERSA strong dataset (i.e. >500 borehole logs e providing detailed stratigraphic and structural knowledge of the Permo-Jurassic Asturias Basin; >1000 geochemical analyses on core samples from drill holes and mine allowing for mapping the distribution of mineralization elements in the different deposits). Furthermore, MINERSA will also participate in the activities leading to increasing the awareness of the general public about the importance of the CRM in the European energy transition (WP6 and WP8).
