What is DAB+
A. What is DAB+?
DAB+ (Digital Audio Broadcasting Plus) is the modern standard for radio broadcasting, offering superior sound quality, more choice, and innovative features compared to traditional FM/AM.
It uses digital transmission to deliver consistent, interference-free audio with the ability to carry metadata (e.g., song title, presenter info, images).
In Simple Terms DAB+ is digital radio. It’s like moving from DVD to streaming, AM to FM or from FM to crystal-clear sound. You get more stations, more choice, easier tuning by name, and better audio - plus extra information on your screen like what song is playing or who’s on air. It’s radio, just better and more of it.

FAQ
What is DAB+?
DAB+ (Digital Audio Broadcasting+) is an upgraded version of digital radio technology that provides better audio quality, more stations, and extra information (like song titles and artist names) compared to traditional FM radio and the original DAB standard
DAB+ vs. DAB
DAB+ is an evolution of the original DAB standard.
DAB+ radios can receive both DAB and DAB+ broadcasts, while older DAB-only radios cannot receive DAB+ stations.
Therefore if you have an older DAB only radio, the radio stations now available on DAB+ and listed on this website may not be accessible on your older radio.
Why are we transitioning to Digital Radio?
The FM band is almost full and has reached the limit of its capabilities and like other media, radio needs to have a digital future to meet listeners’ expectations. Digital broadcasting is more efficient and we need to invest now in infrastructure for the future.
Digital radio gives you more of what you love: More content (the stations you have now, and digital-only stations); ease of use (find your favourite station at the touch of a button, track and artist information onscreen); and digital features (digital quality sound and internet radio).
Where can I hear DAB+ stations
Are DAB+ radios the same as internet radios?
No. DAB+ radios are digital radios that work offline, receiving content via a broadcasting tower. Internet radios stream data from the web, which is why they require a stable, reliable internet connection. Many internet radios are DAB+-enabled also.
What are the advantages of a DAB+ radio?
As long as you are in the broadcasting area, the sound quality is crystal clear and free of any static noise. You can choose from many more stations. Furthermore, DAB+ radio is more energy efficient than internet radio or FM radio.
How can I tune in stations?
DAB+ radios are easy to tune, often featuring an auto-tune function that scans for available stations, eliminating the need to manually tune to specific frequencies.
Purchasing a DAB+ Radio:
When buying a new DAB radio, look for the Digital Radio Tick Mark or check that the packaging specifically mentions DAB+ compatibility.
Where can I buy a DAB+ radio?
DAB+ (make sure it is DAB+) digital radio receivers are stocked by many retailers around the country.
They are available from most electrical retailers, department stores and large supermarkets, in store and online, such as Currys PC World, DID, Tesco, Power City, Harvey Norman and Amazon, as well as from independent audio dealers around the country
