Our trip to the coast was a two day trip. We headed for Monterey. Along the way we stopped at Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park. A short path takes you through a small stretch of forest where the Redwoods are growing. It was a rainy day, and while it wasn't raining while there, the ground was really wet and muddy in some areas. But because it was wet, it was really green and nice and cool too.
Once we got settled in Monterey at our hotel, we wandered down to a famous park. It was crawling with kids and there was alot of play equimpment. The kids loved the rolling slide, where they spent most of their time.
That same day, once the kids were done at the park, we wandered down to the beach. We played in the water a little trying not to get too wet. As you can see we didn't have our swimsuits, but it was pretty chilly anyway.
After the beach, we walked the pier and bought some Salt water taffy at one of the shops. We also ate dinner at the pier as well. The restaurant was at the end of the pier and had glass windows. It was fun to watch the sea lions swim the bay while we waited for our food. Later that evening we walked the "Cannery Row" where we window shopped. We stopped into the Ghirardelli shop for some ice cream and hot chocolate. It was delicious and a great way to end the day.
The next day we went to the Monterey Bay Aquarium. The kids had a great time seeing all the exhibits. There was an area where it was hands on and it allowed the touching of certain sea creatures, like starfish, small sandsharks, sting rays, etc...

By evening we returned to Wade and Jenny's house where we were greated with a home cooked meal. We visited the evening away and rested before our trip back home. It was a great trip where we visited some cool places and got to enjoy visiting with family we don't see very often. |
