The FDA is currently reviewing the medication Kalydeco which could be a near cure for some forms of CF. They have promised to make a decision on approval by April 18th. It is untested on Cam's exact mutation (R117H) but was overwhelming successful on a related mutation. Let the countdown begin.

Straight from Cam's mouth

Camden: "I'm going to make the best popcorn in the world."
Kirk: "What makes it the best in the world?"
Camden: "I do."

Camden's Summer

It must be grand to be 2 and a half and enjoying the summer. We haven't posted anything in forever. We've been busy having fun. Here's a summer's worth of photos.

First Parade on 4th of July in South Dakota - Camden loved gathering candy. He didn't eat it, mind you, but it was fun to get.

Winter Update

Image

We've been terrible about keeping this updated lately. It's been a rough winter - Kirk and I both had the flu at different times, we all had a stomach bug, and Cam seems to get over a cold and then get another within days. He's been through lots of antibiotics, but we're thankful he never go the flu, or the RSV that went through his school and his lungs sound good.

He had a checkup at the CF clinic last week. Lungs sound clear, but his BMI is down again so we're watching that closely and go back in 2 months instead of 3. He's on a pretty high dose of enzymes, he just hasn't been eating much. Apparently all toddlers go through an anerexic stage and he's smack dab in the middle of it. He's asserting his independance and has been challanging at mealtime and during treatments. We're incorporating some new strategies, though, so hopefully it will get easier.

ImageOther than that he's been delightful. He knows a couple of songs and has started singing. Kirk's been working with him on bird calls and he can now identify 15 different birds. He knows a few colors and shapes and guesses at the rest. He still loves playing guitars and helping mama in the studio. He's been extremely "helpful" with my studio reorganization.

He learned how to use the jewelry hammers (he calls them bammers).

Stuff he's saying:
Chelsey: What do you want for breakfast Camden?
Camden: Roast beef!

Camden: I had nice dreams last night.

Camden: Should we... (instead of I want to)

Camden: Mama's car goes zoom! (it is a Mazda)

Camden: Odin, be quiet! Sit!

Kirk: What does the Goldfinch say?
Camden: Potato-house! Potato-house! (then laughs, it's a joke because he knows it should be potato-chip)

He's been watching videos during treatments. I think his favorite right now is Busy People, but he often changes his mind and can't stand Busy People. He's also been allowed to watch a couple of videos on the computer. His favorite right now is this story read by David Tennant that he loves! He asks to watch "Baby David" thanks to his potty book Auntie Kim gave him for Christmas that has Elmo and Elmo's doll baby David.

Piggies

This is how we roll when Kirk's working - piggies at the dinner table - anything to keep him distracted and through enzymes!

In other news, Cam's been battling a cough and probably sinus infection lately - discovered by Kirk when he said Camden's breath smells like the monkey house. Turns out toddlers don't get bad breath unless its a sinus infection. Who knew? So he's on antibiotics again. Seems we've been doing that a lot lately, though when a course lasts 3 weeks, it seems much longer. He also has been getting hives on and off the last 2 days, so I need to call the CF clinic and see if it might be caused by the antibiotics - though he's had this kind before. Fortunately, Cam seems mostly unaffected by this all - just really itchy!
