The NWNM is one of a series of instruments that recreates the sound of rocks underfoot and the repetive rhythms that arise from walking up the mountain. Each “disc” is a piece of slate or other rock that was collected from the mountain-side or the surrounding areas. The adjustable speed turntable rotates these discs which in turn is “played” by the stylus. This then creates different sounds, from harsh noise to white noise textures to rhythmic clicks and patterns from the surface cracks and imperfections.
