Next Survivor
Have you heard about the next planned "Survivor" show?
Three businessmen and three businesswomen will be dropped in an elementary school classroom for 6 weeks. Each businessperson will be provided with a copy of his/her school district's curriculum, and a class of 28 students. Each class will have five learning-disabled children, three with A.D.D., one gifted child, and two who speak limited English. Three will be complete lesson plans at least 3 days in advance with annotations for curriculum objectives and labeled with severe behavior problems.
Each businessperson must modify, organize, or create materials accordingly. They will be required to teach students, handle misconduct, implement technology, document attendance, write referrals, correct homework, make bulletin boards, compute grades, complete report cards, document benchmarks, communicate with parents, and arrange parent conferences. They must also supervise recess and monitor the hallways.
In addition, they will complete drills for fire, tornados, and shooting attacks. They must attend workshops, (100 hours), faculty meetings, and curriculum development meetings. They must also tutor those students who are behind and strive to get their 2 non-English speaking children proficient enough to take the Terra Nova and EPA tests. If they are sick or having a bad day they must not let it show. Each day they must incorporate reading, writing, math, science, and social studies into the program. They must maintain discipline and provide an educationally stimulating environment at all times.
The businesspeople will only have access to the golf course on the weekends, but on their new salary they will not be able to afford it anyway. There will be no access to vendors who want to take them out to lunch, and lunch will be limited to 30 minutes. On days when they do not have recess duty, the businesspeople will be permitted to use the staff restroom as long as another survival candidate is supervising their class. They will be provided with two 40-minute planning periods per week while their students are at specials.
If the copier is operable, they may make copies of necessary materials at this time. The businesspeople must continually advance their education on their own time and pay for this advanced training themselves. This can be accomplished by moonlighting at a second job or marrying someone with money. The winner will be allowed to return to his or her job.

A Bum Knee
Isn't it sad when you are injured and you don't even know how you did it? As many of you know, I'm not really an athlete...don't get me wrong...I love to play and run around but I have never participated on an athletic team (ex. the cheerleading squad, which many people don't think are athletes, but that's another blog entry in itself). Anywho, about a month ago my left knee started hurting when I would bend. When I went to Charlotte, my friend Mandy (the soon to be PA) looked at and told me some fancy word and that I just need to take some motrin for a while. So I did but the pain continued and has progressively gotten worse. Now as I walk it will catch funny and send severe pain up my leg. It's the craziest thing because I have no clue how it happpened but now I have a swollen knee and lots of pain.
I don't really care to go to the doctor's so I put it off for a while but finally went to see my family doctor and he couldn't tell so he told me to go see an orthopedist which I saw today. He says he is kind of puzzled b/c some of the symptoms say I have patella tendonitis but the swelling is atypical for this diagnosis. So now it's off to yet another specialist for an MRI b/c I could have torn cartilage behind the patella. Needless to say, I am less than excited to have to make yet another appointment to find out what is wrong. Meanwhile, he gave me stretches to do and an oh so lovely knee brace. I mean now I really look the part of the injured athlete...maybe I can fool everyone. :)

My 100th post
Well ladies and gentlemen we have reached the 100th post milestone! Sadly I wish I something more exciting to say but I don't. I want to say thank you to those who actually read this; it's just my random thoughts and events that come up but nonetheless, thanks for taking time to read it.

In other news, I just have to say GO HEELS! My alma mater has just clinched the ACC regular season and tournament champs! Hopefully we'll see the same results in the big tourney. One of my students and I actually made a bet on the game and she now has to wear one of my Carolina shirts and bring me lunch. She's a huge State fan so I'm loving the opportunity to gloat!
More additional news...yet another friend had her baby...so congrats to Whitney (Tudor) and Charles Bailey on their new beautiful daughter Kendall. I went to see her yesterday and she is super cute!
