Finding it hard..

As it says, just finding it hard to not only hatch eggs, but to obtain clicks or even eggs from the Auction, I don’t have a lot of EC so it’s hard to get ones I want… Also, what’s the secret to the asteroid? What can I do in general to help my eggs? Just feeling lost.

Welcome.
To address some things in your post (sorry in advance for any rambling).
Asteroid - There is no trick. It's totally random, and rare to get an egg from there. Going daily, I get only one or two creatures a year.

Hatching - Each species used one of 3 stats to evolve (feeds, clicks and views). The amount required also vary between species. Some have fairly small requirements, while some are a slog and a half. You can see the requirements for most creatures on their Achieve page. You can also see what your creatures need on the Your Creatures page. Under each picture there is a list of stats, with one having a blue number next to it. This is the required stat and the blue number is how many needed to the next evolution.

In case you are unaware, creatures on EggCave, can die. This becomes a possibility when their happiness drops to low. However creatures that are level 20 and above are immortal and won't die regardless of their happiness. Levels are formulated using all the stats. (Feeds + Clicks + Views)/300=Level (rounded up). Evolution has no part on immortality. So a creature can be an egg and immortal, or fully hatched and still only a low level. I have one creature that is level 133, and still not fully evolved (and needs almost 26k views to do so).

EC - The most reliable way to gain ec is through feeding. Feeding other peoples coves not only gains you ec, but may result in them feeding yours back.
Other "easy" suggestions are to collect your bank interest daily and do the daily Trivia Question. All answers to the trivia can be found in the Achieves, just some are a lot easier to find. Signing in daily also gives you ec, up to 3k a day, but resets if you miss a day.

Click Exchange/XC - This is feature that allows you to put up to 20 creatures into an exchange. Basically for every creature you click you get a credit and every time your creature is clicked you lose a credit. It doesn't function quite as efficiently as it could, but can still give your creatures a small boost in stats.
Personally, it's where I do a lot of my feeding as I know those creatures are safe to feed, and there are several thousand in there.
