Stage 4: Faves and Recs

Today's challenge is made up of a few parts!

Part 1: in your own space, decide on your favorite genre of game. Declare it. Is it: RPGs? Platformers? Real Time Strategies? Life sims? Whatever your fave genre, state it and tell us a bit about it. How were you introduced to the genre? How long have you been into the genre? Why is it your favorite genre? And so on.

Part 2: Once you've done the above, select three games that you think are the best examples of your favorite genre, and share these with us.

Part 3: State the one character that is your favorite in each of these games. Talk about them.* Tell us why they're your favorites. Tell us what they mean to you.

Part 4 (last part): Rec three or more fanwork(s), each of which features at least one of your three favorite characters. (If the fanwork of choice is art, please avoid reposting the original image - link to it instead!)

Share the love! Chances are you'll recommend some awesome new games and fanworks to someone who likes your favorite genre as much as you do! *Consider warning for spoilers where appropriate, so no-one has to regret joining in - so it's fun for everyone.

Stage 2: A Gamer is You

As much as we like to say we've been playing video games all our lives, each of us had to start somewhere and go from there. Today, in your own space, talk about your history as a gamer. Where did it all begin? When did it all begin? Which games had the biggest impact on you? And so on.

Leave a comment under this post saying You Did it! Include a link to your response if you feel comfortable doing so. Then, read the other participants' responses and even join them in their gaming nostalgia by leaving them a comment!

Welcome to the Electric Challenge!

Completely inspired by snowflake_challenge and sunshine_challenge, the Electric Challenge is a fun, low-pressure, month-long activity for gamers on Dreamwidth!

On every second day throughout the month of February, we will be posting a gaming related challenge - or Stage, as we call them here - for you to answer in your own space. We'll get things started on February 2nd with a fun friending meme, and level up from there. Our Stages might prompt you to talk about your first console, to share a gaming-related achievement, or even to wax a little lyrical about your favorite game. Just as snowflake-challenge is a celebration of fandom and fannishness, Electric Challenge is a celebration of videogames, and those who play them! There are no sign-ups and no deadlines. You can drop in or out whenever you like, you can come along months later and complete all the Stages all in one night.

Don't have a Dreamwidth account? Don't worry! OpenID is switched on, so feel free to respond to the challenges in the comment section using your preferred credentials you like. Or respond anonymously! We don't mind who does what or doesn't - this is a low-pressure event!

A little about the mod: I'm bunnycomb and I like gaming. I'm actually not very active on Dreamwidth, so I'm a quiet mod - I'm just here to set the Stages and make sure everything goes OK. Send me a message if you have any suggestions or have an interest in co-modding the challenge!
