Finale Cake

Image
I finished course I of the cake decorating classes. I finally learned how to do those roses...man they are hard! I haven't perfected them yet but I think they are coming along okay. I copied the cake on the cover of the course I book (it looked easy and pretty). I am especially proud of this cake because I managed to not get any crumbs in the frosting. It's a chocolate cake and chocolate cakes are very hard to frost.. Its also very yummy! (I had a hard time cutting that first piece though). I'm starting course II this Wednesday (it was half off and I got some friends to take it with me). I'll try not to get too fat off all these cakes!

Ward Campout

Friday our ward had a campout way up in Prescott. We thought it would be nice to get out of the house and get better acquainted with the ward members (since they stuck us in the primary as soon as we moved in). Gabriel seemed to enjoy camping and slept very well (until all the ward kiddos woke us up). Just after we put our dinner on the fire to cook, it started pouring rain like crazy! It terrified Gabriel (see video) and poor Erik stayed out to keep the fire going so we could have a dinner and got soaking wet. Well, the dinner burned anyway...but luckily we brought sandwiches just in case! I didn't sleep very well and was rudely awakened by a horrible crow that started to squawk obnoxiously at 5 am. The ward provided a yummy breakfast and that's about it for our campout! Here are some pics :

Shots, Round II

A few days ago Gabriel got his second round of shots. I think I made the appointment too early because he was crying and screaming even before he got the shots. Either that or he remembered where he was and what is done to him! As soon as the shots were over, he was completely fine- it was as if nothing had ever happened. Kinda weird. Here are some cute pics of him and his cool band-aids.ImageImageI'm not sure what Gabe was trying to do here. Or why the font keeps changing to blue underline.Image
Also, here are Gabriel's measurements as of 8/13/09:
Age: 4 m 12 d
Wt (lb): 17.34 Percentile: 84.22
Length (in):28 Percentile: 99.32
Head (in) 17.25 Percentile: 81.87

What a big boy! 99th percentile for length! No wonder his sleepers don't fit him!

Cake Decorating

I am taking a cake decorating class (which is something I have been wanting to do for a long time) and I just completed my first cake for the class! I just followed the design in the book, so it is not my original idea or anything. I think it turned out OK. I like the rainbow but the frosting had some issues i.e. melting off the cake (it's understandable, living in Arizona's 110 degree weather and all, right?). The writing isn't all that great either but I was in a hurry to finish it. Ehh. Oh well. At least it tastes good!

The Beginning of the End....

....of our quiet lives. Gabriel discovered he has vocal chords a few months ago, but recently he has been experimenting with how loud and how long he can babble. Here is a cute video of him:

Gabie Tour '09

ImageYou can't see it too well here, but Gabie got a viral rash after our trip. It's not nearly as bad as it sounds; it just looks like a really bad heat rash.

Erik and I went to Utah to visit friends and family and to show off Gabriel. I was so nice to see old friends and see how our extended family has grown. I tried to get a pic of everybody but stupidly I left my camera behind for half the trip, so we only got pics of half the people we saw. Gabriel took the trip really well but it sure tired him (and us) out.
