She couldn't wait for luch time! At 10 am she was ready to go! I made her wait until noon. We got there and bought her hot dog. She ate it quickly and asked for another one. When she started eating the second one, I looked over at her. She said, "mmmmmm, my taste buds just sent me a thank you note."

Costco
Whenever Maddie is on prednisone, she gets very specific cravings. She has been asking for a New York hot dog this week. I didn't want to drive into the city, so I told her we could go to Costco for lunch. She seemed happy with that.

New bed
A few months ago, Ryan's bed broke. He has been sleeping on it ever since. He reminds us often that we need to buy him a new bed. Yesterday we were discussing it again.
Ryan: "You and Daddy have a King bed. Maddie has a Queen. Can I have a Joker? Or at least a Jack?"

Christmas challenge
We have been doing a Christmas challenge this December. Each day one of the kids takes a turn choosing a slip of paper to be our challenge for the day. They say things like, "make a new friend today" or "do something nice anonymously for someone."
The other day I walked into the living room where the boys were wrestling (which they have been doing all of the time lately!). I saw the slip of paper crumpled up on the floor.
Me (picking up the paper): so, what was the challenge for today?
Daniel: We already did it.
Me: What do you mean you already did it?
(Paper says: forgive someone today)
Daniel: Ryan hit me and I forgave him.
It's as simple as that!!!

I don't want to forget..
***Maddie has a speaking part in an assembly at school tomorrow morning. She is nervous and excited! She told me that she was going to wake up early to get ready for it. I went to say goodnight to her and noticed that she had a post it note on her mirror. It was a reminder to herself to wake up early. At the bottom it says "Good Luck!"
I love that she wished herself good luck!!!
***Maddie was looking at the calendar. She said, "There's only two weeks until Thanksgiving?? I better start behaving!!"
(Our elf on the shelf shows up right after Thanksgiving).
***Daniel prays every night that he can see Brett (his cousin) again soon.

Ryan: I love you more than ... College.

The mind of a 6 yr. old
Bedtime seems to be the time of day that the kids really open up to me. As I scratch their backs, they have lots of questions or tell me more details of their day at school.
Tonight after family prayer, I sat next to Daniel and begin scratching his back. He started asking questions : "Why do we close our eyes when we pray? Why do we pray? Can Heavenly Father really hear us? How can he hear all of us?"
As I tried to answer his questions, we got on the topic of how Heavenly Father knows our thoughts.
Daniel: "You mean Heavenly Father always knows what we are thinking?"
Me: "Yes."
Daniel: (as a smile spreads across his face) "Oops!"
I have been giggling about that conversation ever since.
