Audrey had her 6 month checkup last Monday. Everything was going quite well until the doctor asked whether she had yet begun to babble. I wasn’t sure what that entailed exactly – apparently it is when the child begins to say da da da, ga ga ga, etc. She had not – and, being a mother, I was immediately concerned – do we talk to her enough? (I’d list more concerns here, but that is really the only one I came up with 🙂 )
Anyhow, trust Audrey not to leave me in suspense too long. On Wednesday we went to Denver (Chris for a conference and Audrey and I just tagged along), and on Friday we drove up to Cheyenne to see Chris’ Grandma. That evening, in her Great grandma’s kitchen:
Yep – that girl really likes to accomplish her milestones during travel…
Babbling accomplished!!
One of my best friends from grad school has a daughter who is just 5 weeks younger than Audrey. She only lives about an hour away, but we had never quite managed to get together.
Fortunately Nikki is a better planner than I am, so she invited us to dinner and Mother’s day worked out. Ed made dinner (it was tasty) and Nikki made desert (also tasty).
Since it was our first time meeting Genevieve we couldn’t show up empty handed.
Last Wednesday Audrey and I stopped by the Home Depot to pick up some gardening supplies. Inspired by Amy and Colin’s amazing tomato crop last year – I decided that we may have to resort to … fertilizer.
It was beautiful weather Thursday, so Audrey watched sitting on a blanket while I turned over the dirt.

The weather today was just beautiful – so this afternoon Audrey and I decided to visit the park. We headed out to the one just a couple of blocks from our house.

We sat down on a blanket under a tree and enjoyed the shade.

On Saturday May first, Chris, Audrey and I went out to brunch. While we were there I thought that I caught a glimpse of white in the bottom of Audrey’s mouth. I tried to investigate further by pulling her bottom lip out of the way – but was foiled. Every time I pulled her lip down, Audrey stuck out her tongue – super cute – but I couldn’t tell if I had really seen a tooth.
Later on I figured out the perfect way to find out – I let her chew on my finger, and yes – definitely her first tooth!! (Still no photos of it, I will post some when I get it on film).
So I think we should appreciate how easy (and clean) it is to take her to restaurants for now…
On Friday morning, Chris joined us for bagels at Izzy’s.
