{"id":7500,"date":"2019-05-16T08:30:01","date_gmt":"2019-05-15T23:30:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/findingyourease.com\/?p=7500"},"modified":"2019-05-16T08:46:03","modified_gmt":"2019-05-15T23:46:03","slug":"stretching-body-and-mind","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/findingyourease.com\/stretching-body-and-mind\/","title":{"rendered":"S-T-R-E-T-C-H-I-N-G"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When it comes to stretching I think most of us will\u00a0agree that stretching the body comes to mind, or? But I find it\u2019s equally important to stretch our mind. Therefore I&#8217;ll have a quick look at what stretching can do for both.<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s have a look at the body first. Sadly a \u201cgood stretch\u201d is often overlooked or only done when we exercise. It&#8217;s rather sad, as it can do so much more throughout the day for our overall wellbeing!<\/p>\n<p>To be honest, the day should start with a good stretch, even, or especially, when we&#8217;re still in bed! Lying in bed, stretching the arms above our head, extending the spine and pushing the legs straight. Ah so nice! This feeling of slowly waking the body up and a moment to transition before getting up. It\u2019s such a simple but nice and useful moment to start the day, instead of just jumping, or rolling, out of bed. Is that something you do already? If not, I recommend to give it a try.<\/p>\n<p>But as well during the day, a good stretch not only supports a <em>good posture<\/em>, no it can bring back <em>energy<\/em> and <em>focus<\/em>, too! It helps to <em>release tiredness<\/em> overall but as well as <em>muscles fatigue<\/em>. All this supporting us to feel <em>less stressed and tense<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>I won&#8217;t go into individual stretches as we all come with different backgrounds and flexibilities. And if you are unsure of how to stretch I suggest that you contact a sports trainer or physio to adjust it according to your needs and to avoid injuries! \u00a0But before I leave you with the body-stretch part let me give you a little reminder to be cautious when it comes to any stretching!<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Don\u2019t overstretch, stop when you feel a slight tension.<\/li>\n<li>Use your breathing when you stretch, breathe into the stretch, slow and relaxed.<\/li>\n<li>\u201cFlow\u201d into the stretch and hold it, never bounce.<\/li>\n<li>Relax \u2013 you want to stretch to relax, not to feel tenser!<\/li>\n<li>Last and very important \u2013 don\u2019t stretch until you feel pain! Back off immediately. Pain indicates that you go too far \u2013 listen to your body!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>But as mentioned, this is not only about stretching the body. Make sure to stretch your mind too! Stay curious, playful, experiement, learn and talk about new things. This goes as well hand in hand with the <a href=\"https:\/\/findingyourease.com\/2019\/03\/07\/intellectual-wellness\/\">Intellectual<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/findingyourease.com\/2019\/03\/14\/spiritual-wellness\/\">Spiritual<\/a> Wellness I discussed in previous blogs.<\/p>\n<p>A stretch can:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>help us to transition from one thing to the next.<\/li>\n<li>can give us a space to breathe, to halt, to pause.<\/li>\n<li>can give us a moment to relax.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Dare to step out of your comfort zone.
