Wet and Wild at Huntington Gardens

April 19, 2010

This past weekend we got together with our friends John and Fred and their son Luc at the Huntington Gardens for some fun in the sun and water.  The Huntington has a Children’s Garden complete with a babbling brook and fountains for the kids to play in.

Oliver started out rather tentatively at first…

And then proceeded to a little bit of harmless splashing…

And actually made some time for a photo and a smile!

It wasn’t long before he was “getting into it” (in all sense of the phrase!)!

And then, Luc showed him a thing or two!

And I think the wheels started to turn…

Because it wasn’t long and he was trying the same thing!

And after he realized he could put his head in the water, he began to experiment with other body parts!

And before we knew it, we had the water fountain version of the Tasmanian Devil on our hands!

And to reciprocate, Oliver showed Luc how to do some climbing.

All in all, a great day!

Think I could train him to do windows?!

Happy Easter (a little late!)

April 8, 2010

But better late than never right?  Right?!

Easter totally surprised me this year.  Probably because I helped chaperone 32 students on a trip to DC/NY and didn’t get back until late the night (well, morning really) before.

As in years past, I made Oliver a bunny this year (it didn’t get done until Monday, but don’t tell him that!).  I can’t find the pattern I used (it was an online freebie), but if I do, I’ll update here.

Also as in years past, we took Oliver to get his photo taken with the Easter Bunny.  And as in years past, he wasn’t very happy about it.

Notice he’s STANDING and won’t sit?

It’s not until they offered him candy that he was having any of that.

As I was trying to coax him into smiling while I opened his candy, this was about as close to a smile as we got
(and he still looks nervous, as evidenced by him picking his finger nails!)

He did however seem happy to say Good-Bye to the Easter Bunny!

Our attempts to get him to smile while wearing his Easter Bunny crown proved slightly more productive (albeit cheesey).

Speaking of candy, guess what ‘candy’ is called in French?

‘Bonbons’!
