What Happens In Vegas

July 20, 2010

I know, I know, it’s supposed to stay in Vegas. But I have to share this. Oliver has turned into a little fishy since we’ve been here! He went from being cautious and almost afraid of the water to being nearly fearless! It’s incredible!

BTW both Hubby and I decided it was a good thing that neither of our mothers were there to witness Oliver’s newfound fearlessness as mine would have had a heart attack and his would have keeled over dead.

Still Tired, But Still Happy

July 13, 2010

After a whirlwind of a week filled with more painting, taping, decorating, assembling, lifting, moving, hauling, and scolding guiding (it’s fun being the boss), Hubby & I finished the salon about 5 minutes before the first guests arrived for the open house (which I wisely scheduled for a week after I bought it otherwise I NEVER would have finished everything there was to finish.  So I have only myself to blame for what I know call Hell Week.).  Actually, they arrived as we were trying to hang the cafe doors on the backroom, so we stopped (and sure enough, they’re still sitting there waiting to be hanged!).

The Grand Opening Celebration was incredible.  I be able to share with my family and friends the results of our labor was incredible.  It was one of the happiest times of my life (behind meeting Hubby and the day Oliver arrived).

I’m so tired I can’t even put together a witty blog post, so I’ll just show you the pictures.  First are a gorgeous plant and floral arrangements my dear friends sent me, followed by shots from the Grand Opening Celebration taken with my iPhone, then a link to some “real” shots on a friend’s FB account.  Enjoy!

Go here to see my friend’s FB album with more (and better!) shots from the Grand Opening Celebration!

Tired, But Happy

July 6, 2010

I was going to say it was a long weekend, but it absolutely flew by!  Exreme Salon Makeover was a moderate success.  We learned a lot of things.

  1. We are too old to be pulling near-all-nighters.
  2. Despite what I would like to believe, I can’t do it all.
  3. Sometimes it is just easier to pay someone to do it for you.
  4. We are too old to be pulling near-all-nighters.
  5. Black paint bleeds under blue tape, even when you push it down really well.
  6. People don’t see their own dirt.
  7. Forty-eight hours is NOT enough time to clean up other people’s dirt, throw away other people’s trash, paint over other people’s dirt, and try to buy stuff to replace the stuff you threw away.
  8. It’s REALLY expensive opening a business.
  9. Ramen is cheap (for those who haven’t experienced it)
  10. We are too old to be pulling near-all-nighters.

The good news is that it’s really coming together.

The bad news is that there’s still quite a bit to do.

The good news is I’m having a ton of fun.

The bad news is that I don’t like ramen.

The good new is WE’RE HAVING A PARTY!

Extreme Salon Makeover

July 1, 2010

It’s all coming together!  Only 48 more hours and the salon is mine!

The meeting with the current stylists went well.  The design for the Extreme Salon Makeover weekend (whereby we’re doing some rather intense work in 48 hours!) is coming together.  And I’m SUPER excited!  Can’t wait to show you all pics!

Here’s a peek into the inspiration:

And an actual element going into the design:

CAN.NOT.WAIT!  So excited!

More photos to come after we’re all done!  Wish us luck!
