We had the amazing pleasure to tour the quantum laboratories of Université de Sherbrooke and learn about quantum cryptography. Physicist and machine learning expert Isabelle Viarouge gave us an amazing lesson on quantum cryptography and BB84. What an insightful and interesting workshop. Another thank you to Mélissa Greene who welcomed us and showed us the university and gave us a deep dive into the quantum institute and innovation zone. Today's learned fact: Université de Sherbrooke holds almost 20 dilution fridges and allows the renting of machinery to help expand the technological landscape. The programs offered here are incredibly interesting and the research department is truly collaborative. For a second year VanierHacks 2026 is a great success! https://bit.ly/4cJXV6S More than 125 students from various regions around the province reveled in 48 hours of innovation and creativity at VanierHacks 2026. It was the first hackathon experience for more than half of this year’s participants. The Vanier CSSA (Vanier Computer Science Student Association) organized this free event, where fun, games and food were on the menu with breakfast, lunch and dinner keeping everyone fueled up for a good time and invention. What happens when a university brings quantum experts to your college? A workshop we won't forget. We're still reflecting on the incredible quantum computing workshop we hosted at Vanier College this week, we have to thank Université de Sherbrooke for making this possible. We were so fortunate to have your brilliant staff (Ibrahim Chegrane, Marco Antonio Armenta Isabella Viarouge) on our campus, leading us through an immersive introduction to the field. Getting the chance to learn about qubits directly from such leading experts—moving from abstract theory to understanding how they enable superposition and entanglement—was truly an eye-opening experience for everyone involved.
