The Embodiment of Peace (Early Life & Guruship)

Born on April 15, 1563Became the 5th Guru on September 1, 1581

Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji became the fifth Guru of the Sikhs at the age of 18. From childhood, Maharaj was incredibly peaceful, humble, and deeply devoted to God.

Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji became the fifth Guru of the Sikhs at the age of 18. From childhood, Maharaj was incredibly peaceful, humble, and deeply devoted to God.

He taught the world that love, patience, and devotion are our greatest strengths. Despite facing opposition and hardships, he never harbored ill will toward anyone.

Open Doors for All (Sri Harmandir Sahib)

Foundation laid in December 1588

Guru Ji created Sri Harmandir Sahib (the Golden Temple) in Amritsar. To show ultimate humility and brotherhood, he asked a Muslim saint, Hazrat Mian Mir, to lay the foundation stone.

He purposefully designed it with four entrances, which carried a massive message: this House of God is forever open to people of all religions, castes, and backgrounds.

The Greatest Gift (Sri Adi Granth Sahib)

Completed and installed (First Parkash) in August 1604

To guide humanity forever, Maharaj collected the holy hymns of the first four Gurus, his own writings, and the spiritual wisdom of various Hindu and Muslim saints.

He brought them all together to create the 'Sri Adi Granth Sahib.' In August 1604, this pure scripture was respectfully placed inside Sri Harmandir Sahib, giving the world a true masterpiece of universal love and unity.

Serving Humanity (Social Welfare)

Founded the city of Tarn Taran in 1590

Maharaj didn't just give spiritual teachings; he deeply felt people's pain. In 1590, he founded the city of Tarn Taran and built a massive sarovar (pool) and a home/hospital specifically for leprosy patients, who had been completely cast out by society.

Guru Ji would lovingly serve and care for the sick with his own hands.

The Supreme Sacrifice (Shaheedan De Sartaaj)

Arrested and tortured for 5 daysMartyrdom on May 30, 1606

The Mughal Emperor Jahangir grew fearful of Guru Ji's spreading message of love and equality. In late May 1606, Maharaj was arrested in Lahore. For five days, he was made to sit on a burning hot iron plate (Tati Tavi) while boiling sand was poured over his head.

Despite enduring unimaginable torture, Guru Ji did not waver or show anger. He peacefully accepted God's will, saying, "Tera Kiya Meetha Lage" (Your Will is sweet to me). Because of this unmatched sacrifice on May 30, 1606, he is forever revered as the Shaheedo Ke Sartaaj (The Crown of Martyrs).
