Autumn Nature Shelf

Not everyone has an actual table to have their spot of nature for the kids to play with, and we are definitely in that category.  My kids LOVE  their Nature Spot!  I pulled out the fall items for our nature table and put them on the top two shelves of this beautiful bookshelf my husband made. The kids are so happy 🙂

I took Felicity to hike around the Arboretum for a couple hours on Saturday.  We met up with 2 of my sisters and some of their kids.  I have not been there before and must say it is so magical!  The weather was perfect and we felt like we were walking in a land of fairies and unicorns.  We will DEFINITELY be getting a family membership as soon as possible! they have a website for more info http://arboretum.ag.arizona.edu/

Mississippi

Sorry this video is sideways. I couldn’t figure out how to flip it! oh well, that’s life around here… everything seems upside down, backwards, and sideways sometimes. This is a video of Samantha practicing her presentation on Mississippi last December. Make sure you watch the entire video for a giggle ending!

The Nest

image

We moved a couple weeks ago to a house with trees in our back yard.  I’m so excited to have trees!  Felicity climbed one the first day here. (a girl with a free spirit just like get mommy).
As I walked around the yard today, enjoying the unusually warm weather, a breeze came sneaking into my yard which made some of the leaves fall off the tree. Oh the excitement of leaves swirling down around ones feet! In my enjoyment, I looked up into the branches and saw a birds nest.

I hope that next spring will bring a bird family to live in our tree.

The Post in the Road

I just LOVE how I have read all these books and know where each off these paths lead to. I thoroughly enjoy the fact that I have a way to visit other lands and people for a while, now and then.

Saint Nicholas Day 2011

The girls were here to celebrate St Nicholas day this year.  I retold the story of Saint Nicholas and then they made sure their shoes were full of carrots for his horse.

Saint Nicholas brought bags of (chocolate) gold, peppermint sticks, oranges, and cute animal stickers

The girls were so excited to see their treasures. Samantha even put her shoe in the same spot the next night hoping he would return 😉

Daily Rhythm

Image

As I have been preparing for my preschool, I have come across a few articles that might help others as they have really helped me…

http://www.waldorftoday.com/2011/11/daily-rhythm-at-home-and-its-lifelong-relevance-by-helle-heckmann/  this article is so good! It made me think about my own situation and how I could’ve done so many things different, yet it didn’t make me feel like I was a bad parent.  Now that I have two little ones under 7 and starting a waldorf preschool, I have a better awareness of HOW to keep the rhythm.

http://theparentingpassageway.com/2011/11/14/one-mothers-experience-with-thinkingfeeling-willing/ This a wonderful review on the Thinking-Feeling-Willing (TFW for short) program by Melisa and Eric Neilsen that I’m taking part in.  I couldn’t have said it better myself!  I absolutely LOVE how the program is set up in two parts.  1) helping the parent/teacher learn how to teach the children, and 2) all the curriculum needed to teach the preschool aged child.

here’s a peek at what the mom/teacher learns in the program http://waldorfjourney.typepad.com/a_journey_through_waldorf/2011/10/peek-at-thinking-feeling-willing.html

and this is a sample of what the children are taught http://waldorfjourney.typepad.com/a_journey_through_waldorf/2011/11/sample-childrens-lessons-for-thinking-feeling-willing.html

New Adventures

Image

Whenever I think about a job, I always come back to teaching Waldorf inspired pre-school.  (I think someone is trying to tell me something, don’t you?! LOL!!)  The funny thing is that I’ve wanted to do this ever since I found out about Waldorf but I kept putting it out of my head thinking “it wouldnt pay enough”,  “I’m not patient enough”, etc, etc, etc….. all that was just excuses.  The truth is that I love kids and they seem to like me too. So that’s what I’ve decided!  I’m going to just go for it! I don’t have any type of college degree so I don’t think I can be a certified teacher in a school.  I still need to come up with a Waldorf lesson plan so I can do the pre-school.  I’m so excited! and a little scared too!
