| More Archie march Of Dimes |
[13 Jul 2009|11:44pm] |
FYI, here are the rest of the sketch cards I contributed to the Archie March Of Dimes project. Unlike the sheet in the earlier post, these cards are cut. Sorry to say, I'm sufficiently unfamiliar with the whole Ebay and sketch card thing to tell you how you might obtain some or all of these sketch cards. Maybe someone here can fill us all in. It's for a worthy cause.

| Dying Western Keeps Going and Going! |
[06 Apr 2009|10:45pm] |
You'll recall some posts ago that I blogged about "The Dying Western," a short film I appeared in last year. Below is an official bulletin from the Producer about the current doings with that film:
**********
The Dying Western (Independent Film shot in 2008 with) has been honored in THREE more film festivals IN ADDITION to the 2009 Las Vegas International Film Fest and imdb.com!! http://www.lvfilmfest.com/Festival_2007/Official_Selections.aspx http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1347034/
"The Dying Western" is now a finalist for the Appalachian Film Festival! We are one of two finalists in the young filmmakers category and one of three total in the category. http://appyfilmfest.com/index.htm
We just found out "The Dying Western" is also an official selection in the Ivy Film Festival in Rhode Island. The fest is sponsored by Paramount, among others. Martin Scorsese and Tom Rothman, Chairman of Fox Filmed Entertainment were among the attendees last year. http://www.ivyfilmfestival.com
That same short film has also made it into the Columbia University Undergraduate Film Festival!

| Me On The Net |
[02 Feb 2009|08:03pm] |
My brother Loyd has tipped me off to a few recent places where my Jughead work has popped up on the net. Jug #192 was written up on the site 'Comics Bulletin,' and got a respectable three and a half bullets.
More recently, Jug #193 (the current issue) was deemed "the greatest comic to come out this week" on the 'Comics Extreme site.
And, I get a mini career overview on 'Comic Book Resources' in their January feature, "A Month of Writing Stars."
Thanks to all for the attention.

| Jug on Leno |
[26 Jan 2009|10:54pm] |
I didn't realize it had been so long since an update.
On Monday, January 12, one of my Jughead issues made it onto The Tonight Show With Jay Leno. The issue in question was altered as part of a gag in response to the special Obama issue of Amazing Spider-Man.
Below are a couple screen shots from the show, followed by the original cover. Then, below that, a link to the Tonight Show segment if you want to see how it played out.

| Turkey! |
[13 Oct 2008|10:28pm] |
My face turns up in a new children's book, courtesy of artist C.F. Payne. "The Turkey Bowl," written by Phil Bildner, is a seasonal book that came out last week. A couple of my other artist pals, Carol Schwartz (left) and Jerry Dowling (center) also made it into this illustration. It's always an honor to be called upon to model for Payne, one of the country's great illustrators. You can order "The Turkey Bowl" from Amazon by clicking the picture below:

I'm interviewed in the latest (Oct. '08) issue of, wait for it, Geek Monthly. A nice two-page spread in which I mostly talk about my work for Archie Comics, but a bit of other stuff as well. Run right out and grab up a copy, or order from Amazon by clicking the cover below:

| More Wings |
[22 Sep 2008|10:14pm] |

A few more photos came in from the Buffalo Wing festival. This gives you an idea of the size of the sea of humanity that turned out to watch people compete to stuff themselves with wings.
In the second photo, founder Drew Cerza hustled me onto the stage to make me justify my existence and explain how the Jughead comic book came about -- or so I thought. Instead (as I mentioned last time), he actually got me up there to have the hordes sing Happy Birthday at me.
P.S. Tomorrow night (September 23) I'm participating in a dramatic reading of a one-act play entitled "Southern Exposure," as part of the Cincinnati Playwrights Initiative program. I'm the voice of a baseball announcer.

| Wing Recap |
[08 Sep 2008|11:04pm] |
The Buffalo Wing Festival was a tremendous success. Drew Cerza organized another amazing event, with attendance estimated at 78.000. I signed thousands of copies of that special Jughead edition and managed to sneak away for a few moments to try the wings from one of the booths. The first day of the festival also happened to be my birthday, so my sweetie Karen arranged with Drew to have the entire stadium full of Buffalo wing fans sing Happy Birthday to me. This link will take you to the festival page with photos of me doing my thing.

| Wingfest This Weekend! |
[26 Aug 2008|06:04am] |

Just a reminder that this is the weekend for the National Buffalo Wing Festival in (where else?) Buffalo, New York. The current issue of Jughead (#190) finds Jug and friends attending the festival. And I will be there, signing copies of this special issue, which will be available for, I think, a $2 donation to charity. I want to meet you all! Drop everything and get on the bus!
Festival info is at http://www.buffalowing.com/
