LATE-DAY SURFImage Waves picked up nicely yesterday afternoon. Waist high, glassy long lines. Not a lot of power, but nice to get out and surf. Cold, air about 20, water 40.

ImageREMEMBER: Be nice to the Plow-truck drivers.

ImageImagine having to dig out after surfing a couple hours in freezing temperature.

OFF PATHImageI've been exploring beyond the usual breaks.

ImageGetting away from the crowds and routine.

ImageBreaking a few rules along the way.

ImageFinding some great coves. This was chest high, breaking over shallow rock.

ImageAnd some sketchy ledges. At least head high, if not bigger.

IMAGES FROM THE 21STImageThis was the morning of the day we got 14 inches of snow.

ImageWaves were waist to head high and glassy.

ImageThe air temp was about 5, the water low 40's. Made for some great sea-smoke on the water.

ImageGuys would go out, catch 4 or 5 waves, and run back to their cars.

20 MONTHS, Joey Radford's surf short was in the "Proven in the Northeast" film contest. Great film! This film has some of Maines best unknown surfers at some of Maines best unknown breaks, you are privileged to see of these waves on film. Great job Joey! I am not sure what he wins, but vote for it here.

GULF OF MAINE ImagePulled this image from the GoMOOS (Gulf of Maine Ocean Observing System) website. A great resource for swell and ocean information. Unfortunately they are removing some of their buoys due to funding shortfalls.
