Best picture of Brooke EVER

January

This month has flown by. All the time off of school during the Christmas break was great for Abby, and then we loved having Martin Luther King Day off as well. This month, we have just been getting back into the rythym of things after the holidays, with nothing spectacular going on.

As for the kids....Brooke is showing a lot of personality and becoming mobile. She likes to roll around, scoot backwards, get up on her hands and feet, and wiggle her way from here to there. Jake is entering a new phase with lots of screaming and "stupid mom, ugly mom" utterances. He likes to stay up super late at night, even though he is obviously exhausted. He is also excited about wearing underwear, and likes to put it on without me knowing. I am going to try potty training next week, so wish me luck! (and pray that I don't kill someone during the process)

Nate is starting preschool next week. He is so excited and so ready for it, which makes me feel good. I had him signed up to go last fall, but he just wasn't ready. He has really grown a lot in the last few months though and I think he will do just great. Everyday he tells me that he's bored and asks, "What can I do?" I've tried to do a little preschool at home with him, but he won't really have it. So, I'll keep you posted on how he does!!! His life lately has actually been taken over by his obsession with Transformers. He watches the 80's Transformers cartoons over and over and plays with his Transformer toys (which are hand-me-downs from Matt's toy collection) constantly. He talks about them all the time.

Abby is doing great - she is a super helper to us. She likes to feed Brooke, play with Brooke, and do just about anything we ask. She is giggly and fun and we love that girl.

We gave the kids a bounce house for Christmas and they love it. They like to jump from the bounce house to the couch, pretending that the ground is lava. If they fall into the lava, bad things happen (like they have to go around the corner and count to 20). They also like to play "lava creatures." I'm not sure exactly what they do, but they ask each other to play and then run away and do their thing.

As for Matt and I... Matt is being seriously good about eating healthy. He skips the treats, eats peppers while I'm gorging on chips & salsa, and generally eats well! I've been so impressed! He's lost lots o' weight and hopes to lose more by his 32nd birthday, coming up in March. I am training for a half marathon at the end of March. I use the word "training" loosely, as I've only been at it for about two weeks. It's really fun for me to get back into it. Also, Brooke went 5 nights in a row last week sleeping in until the 5:45-6:15 range. It's been awesome!

So, life is good. With so many people having a rough go of things right now, we are grateful for our blessings.

Here are some recent pictures. I got a new camera lens for my birthday and am loving experimenting with it. Most of the pictures I take with it are blurry, so I'm still figuring it out, but it's a lot of fun.

Christmas

So we had a great time during Christmas. Matt's parents as well as his sister Kristina, and her four kids stayed with us. We all had a blast. Highlights include playing at the creek with grandpa, going to the park, girl's outing to the Nutcracker ballet, making gingerbread houses with grandma (to form a gingerbread village), going on walks outside, riding scooters, Image decorating sugar cookies, enjoying cousin Morgan's delicious baking, caroling to our neighbors (with Matt and Tyler getting creative on the song endings), doorbell ditching our neighbors to deliver secret santa gifts, playing games with the adults, etc. With that many kids in the house, I was happily surprised that for the most part, everyone stayed healthy all month long! Christmas eve and morning were fun, as the kids acted out the nativity and then enjoyed opening presents the next morning.
