The Kid's Journal Entries
Here are some of their latest:
Nate
You often ask us, "Do you want to hear something interesting?" Then you proceed to tell us accounts of Transformers or other things you know.
You are a good boy. If you've something wrong, you frequently say, "Sorry" without us asking you to.
You have started drawing pictures a lot. It is so dang cute, I can't stand it. You draw these cute people and Transformers. This is what you are saying to me right now, "I need my journal right now. I can only write in it on Sunday. I have to do something special in it. It's for the Bishop."
The other day in Primary we drew pictures of ways that we know Heavenly Father loves us. You drew a picture of a person and a corndog.
You also just said to me: "I had a dream that you were cutting your skin with a knife. I was freaking out. I was scared. It made me almost cry."
You are such a chatterbox! You love to play, "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" where everything around us is food. Right now you're laying on the ground because "a big corn fell on me and it hurt me so bad...but now I can get up. Do you want to see the big cookie mountain (a cushion mountain)?"
Nate: I wish you had braids in your hair, but you don't.
Mom: Why do you wish I had braids?
Nate: Because they make you look so pretty.
Tonight as we got in bed, we decided to say one thing we are grateful for.
Me: I'm grateful for daddy and that he works so hard for us to have a house, food to eat, and clothes to wear. [daddy is working late tonight]
Abby: I'm grateful for chocolate!
Nate: I'm grateful for grandma because she made animal blanket for me! [it was actually Grandma Joan's twin sister Jean who made it, but no biggie]
Abby: I'm grateful for grandmas.
Nate: I'm grateful for my baby (Brooke) because she's the cutest baby in the world.
Today as you dreamily stared out the window, with your chin resting in your hand, you said, "I wish everything in the world was made out of candy."
Brooke
You absolutely love the bath. I've been putting you in the big bath with the kids lately. One night, I started the bathwater in the bathroom, and then I took you with me to another room. As I sat down with you, you were kicking and squirming, so I let you go. Once you got on the floor you started crawling immediately toward the bathroom. I followed you as you went all the way in and pulled yourself up on the side of the bathtub.
Yesterday, Jake was in the bathtub getting his legs washed off after a potty accident. You crawled into the room and pulled yourself up, bouncing up and down and giggling. I decided to put you in as well. You and Jake are both water babies and LOVE it in there!
You have started to cry when I put you down for your afternoon nap - I think you'd rather be up and play. You are such a good natured kid and so easily entertained. If we plop you down on the floor you will happy for literally hours as you crawl from room to room. You have learned to climb up the two steps into our playroom also.
Abby
Abby-isms:
"I like to say 'baby' after I say things. Like rock stars do."
You love to play with my iTouch. You play games on it and you can use it really well. It surprises me how well you know things - you told me the other day, "I need to find some websites and links on this."
Dad set up an email account for you a few months ago. You really enjoy both writing and receiving email. We have the email link on our favorites list and you can get to login page, type in your user name and password, and read and reply to email all by yourself.
Dad asked you if you wanted something. You responded with, "Do you want a punch in the face?" :)
The other night, you and Nate watched the Opening Ceremonies to the Winter Olympics with dad and I. You were really interested in it. The next day, you wrote "Olympics" on a piece of paper, with "America" and "Germany" written in two rows underneath it. You told me you were going to keep track of how many medals each team won. "I hope America wins."
Jake
You like to pop around corners and say, "Pop Weasel!" You get that from Nate who likes to say, "Pop goes the Weasel!"
When I am chatting with someone, you like to interject with, "What or (you) talking about?" If we ask what you are talking about, you respond, "Nothing!"
Last night there was a talent show at church. You and Nate wore your superhero costumes and went up on stage while some ninja music was playing. You basically just stood there, looking dazed. We should have shown you what to do before you got up there. :)
You are POTTY TRAINING! You've been so excited about wearing underwear for the past few weeks so we decided that now is finally the time to get you trained! We loaded a jar up with gummy bears and chocolate covered raisins and call it your potty treat jar....Today, the third day, you are less excited about going on the potty....I told you that if you didn't want to go potty, you'd have to go back to wearing diapers and we'd have to throw away your potty treats. You said, "Okay!" and promptly threw your jar of treats in the garbage, ran into the other room, and brought me back a diaper for you to wear. All with a big smile on your face. That really backfired on me. :) So I pulled the jar out of the garbage and started eating the treats, telling you how great they tasted. You asked to have one and I said, "Sure, after you go potty!" So you happily ran in there, went potty, and got your treat. You are a great kid.

Snow day = No school
On Friday, school was cancelled because of the snow. I think the school district was worried about icy conditions and such. Anyway, we had a fun day at home! Matt worked from home so it was great to have him around. That morning, I slept in. While I was in bed, Matt took all the kids outside to make a snowman. I cracked up when I got up and saw what Brooke was wearing:
Cute Jake (thinking that he's potty trained with the undies and all - but he's not)

Wronged, somehow.
Jake's hat, her own PJ's and pink coat, Abby's vest, and Jake's red socks pulled on over her PJ's.
Here are some pictures of the rest of our day:
Snow!
This was a big week for unexpected snow storms! We had our share here in Texas. We loved it. It was beautiful to see everything covered in snow. I think when all was said and done we had about 6-8 inches. Beautiful! Nate is absent from these photos because he had already been outside, then became cold, and was inside requesting hot chocolate.

Abby vs. Brett
When Brett (my brother, or as Jake calls him, "Uncle Brooke") was here, he wrote a few funny things on our white board calendar, such as "Feed a frog to Abby." Well, Abby wrote one back, saying, "Eat a Brett for lunch." We laughed and she just got on a roll and wrote tons and tons. Here are some of the things she wrote:
1. Make him eat poison
2. Put him in a fire
3. Make him play the harp and wear a dress
4. Make an alligator eat him
5. Put lipstick on him
6. Put him in a dinosaur's mouth
7. Put Brett in a pumpkin
8. Put a headband in his hair
9. Put him in a cupcake
10. Make him turn into a girl
11. Make him have long hair
12. Stick him to the wall
13. Make him wear a dress
14. Put him in the bottom of the sea
15. Throw glass at him
16. Throw him off a cliff.
You asked Uncle Brett what the worst one was - he responded, "Put a dress on him," so you went on to write lots more "girly" ones.

Nate's first day of Preschool
Nate started preschool today! He is attending Apple Creek, twice a week, for 2 1/2 hours a pop. He was very excited to start. We visited the school yesterday and he got to see his classroom and was given a school T-shirt. When we got in the car afterward, he immediately wanted to wear his shirt and was so excited to show Abby when we got home. This morning when he woke up, he came down the stairs already dressed (at 6:30am) and told Matt, "I better put on my shoes!" He had his coat and backpack on a half an hour early. When we dropped him off, he went right in, put his name on the door, hung up his coat and backpack and sat down to do some playdoh at a table. He was quiet, but didn't seem scared. Afterward, he said that he enjoyed it. I'm so happy for this little guy - I think this is just what he needs!
Brooke's new tricks
Brooke surprised me by pulling herself up in her crib and by crawling. Watch for the shocking ending (not for the faint at heart). P.S. Brooke is okay, Jake didn't fare so well.
