Jake turns FIVE

Our crazy maniac, Jacob Maurice, turned five this month.  He was really looking forward to being older.  Unfortunately, Matt and I have ruined that.  We keep reminding him to behave by saying, "You are a big five year old now, so we can't do that...." and in frustration he responds, "No, I'm still four."

Despite the wild boy in Jake, he is growing out of some of the trouble he has given us the past few years.  He is eternally cheerful and plays well with all the kids.  We love him so.

Birthday breakfast:  waffles, whipped cream, berries & bacon
The kids anxiously anticipate opening the birthday bags that Grandma Hunsaker sends ALL the kids for each birthday.  It is a special treat.

Jake had a birthday party that was held outside.  We had this fun slip n'slide set up to play on.  They also did an obstacle course and had water fights.  Matt was the target for one of the water games.  The kids lined up and threw water balloons at him.  If he caught the balloon, he got to throw it back.  They all loved it.  Then it was a water gun fight with the girls and Matt against the boys.  Matt's thrives on getting people wet, so this was heaven for him.

Next up was a pinata!  Nothing like lots of sugar to top off a birthday party.

Some videos of Jake lately.

They always play that well together!  :)

Our favorite family night activity is the "scarf game" where you try to grab each person's scarf.  Jake is usually a wild animal when we play this game.  The video here doesn't quite capture it, but it's fun to see him strutting around in his underwear just the same.

4th of July

This is my second favorite holiday.  I LOVE the fourth of July!  We started the day with a breakfast and parade at our church.  The kids decorated their bikes and the wagon for the festivities and we feasted upon pancakes and sausage.  Afterward, Claire napped and Matt worked while I took the other kids to see Brave.  Next up, we made a fruit pizza...easily my favorite dessert for the summer.  Then off to swimming at a friend's followed by a BBQ (and some very tame fireworks...sadly fireworks are not okay here) with our neighbors in the cul-de-sac.

Lubbock

The kids and I took off for a few days to visit Brett, Jenn and the kids in Lubbock.  We had a super time!  The kids stayed up late and had lots of fun swimming, making crafts, playing with swords, playing battle with each other, picking peaches, and going to a local amusement park called Joyland.  We love having family in the great state of Texas!

Best bed head EVER!!
Brooke loved Joyland!  She couldn't get enough of the rides!  Abby even told me that she liked it better than Disneyland.  :)
