What the research says.
Contrast therapy — heat then cold — is one of the most-studied recovery methods in modern physiology, and you don't need much of it to see the effect.
Researcher Susanna Søberg found that around 57 minutes of heat and 11 minutes of cold per week is the threshold where the body starts to adapt — better metabolism, more brown-fat activity, and a measurably steadier response to stress. That's roughly one Icebatu session, twice a week. Not a lot. Enough.
The heat does its own work. Large studies of regular sauna use in Finland have linked it to better sleep, lower stress, and faster recovery after training. The cold sharpens you — the plunge triggers a clean rise in noradrenaline that lifts focus and mood for hours afterward.
