Three Months

Image

Image

Image
Our Olivia is three months old!
We did not have a doctor's appointment this month,
but according to our unofficial way of weighing her
she is now 11 pounds or close to it.
She continues to grow and get taller everyday!
Image
Olivia is adjusting to Illinois very well!
Here she is helping her Dad unpack all of his books!
Unpacking and organizing a house is a lot of work with a newborn baby.
We still have some boxes around our house,
but we make progress every day.
We have almost been here a month, and it is feeling more like home.
Image
Olivia loves to sit up like the big girl she is!
She has never really been a true newborn.
(Not that I have true experience on what a newborn is really like...)
Olivia never had the newborn cry.
She rarely liked to sleep...but is getting better, I hope!
She loves to stand up on her feet,
with Mom and Dad's help of course.
She loves attention!
Image
Olivia graduated from her pack'n'play this month.
Her long body did not fit comfortably in it anymore.
She moved into her crib!
Image
Olivia has good nights and bad nights.
She will either be fussy and want to be with Mom the whole night,
or she will be so sleepy a fighter jet could not wake her up,
and I am able to put her down in her crib for a couple of hours.
Image
Olivia loves to stretch out after she sleeps.
She is an expert at stretching.
She lifts her arms above her head, arches her back, and straightens out her legs.
I love it when she stretches.
Image
Olivia loves to talk.
She especially loves to talk to her parents.
Olivia and Joe will have wonderfully long conversations together.
I often talk to her about her dreams from her naps or
I will share stories about adventures that she might take one day.
Her voice is so sweet and delicate.
I love hearing it go up and down.
She even loves to trill her tongue.
Image
Olivia is an explorer.
She has discovered her fingers.
She loves to shove as many fingers in her mouth as she can.
She is beginning to grab things.
So far she tries to grab some play colorful rings, our fingers and my hair.
Image
Olivia loves tubby time.
What a relief this has been to us!
Image
Olivia has not always loved tubby time.
She used to begin to cry almost immediately and
her crying would last the duration of her tub.
(She had some really quick tubbies!)
Image
Olivia has grown to love the tub and now loves to soak and relax in one.
She gets a little nervous when we first place her in the water,
but then she kicks her feet and plays in the water and has a great time.
She loves to be in the warm water.
Image
Olivia loves to share smiles with whoever is giving her a tubby.
Image
Olivia has been battling cradle cap.
I have heard that babies with long hair often struggle with this.
So we scrub her head with oil and then soap each night.
Isn't she darling all wet and clean with the bubbles atop her head?
Image
Olivia loves getting a tub so much she does not like to see it come to an end.
She still cries after her tub is over and when it is time to get into her jammies.
Hopefully by month 4 she will make improvements on that front.
Image
Olivia has a toy we have named Mr. Owl.
He squeaks, and we are not sure if Olivia loves it or hates it.
With one look from Mr. Owl,
Olivia will stop her fussy mood and stare deep into his eyes!
When she begins to be fussy again
we break out the big guns and start squeaking him.
She just stares at him.
My hope is that she loves looking into his eyes
and is not intimidated by his strong voice.
Image
Olivia has made some improvements when it comes to being in her car seat.
She does not really mind being in it,
for a short period of time,
as long as she is not moving.
Ha!
We are thinking we traumatized her when we drove out here.
And that she does not like to move backwards.
(Her car seat is rear facing.)
But sometimes she lets us put her in the stroller
and push her around.
It is a work in progress.
Image
 Olivia is three months old
and we can't believe how much she has grown and changed!
Image
Olivia is our joy!
We love being a family of three.

Our 4 Year Anniversary Celebration

Image
Our Anniversary fell on Sunday this year,
so we got to celebrate on Saturday and Sunday!
We spent all day on Saturday together
exploring our new town.
For our evening meal
we wanted to try something that was an Illinois original.
We searched online and found a couple we were interested in trying
that also had carryout.
(We knew we could not dine in with our little one.)
We settled on trying Biaggi's.
(Later we found out there is one is Salt Lake...ha!)
The menu looked great and we were starved.
We shared pasta and dessert.
Yum!
On Sunday, we slept in,
(not by choice but out of need due to staying up late with baby.)
and had a roast dinner that evening with all the fixins.
I even made 4-layer dessert for our four years of marriage.

Our anniversary celebration was simple and sweet,
but it was great to celebrate our love for each other
and for our family of three!

The Big Move

Image
Here we are!
July 29th we left our home and began our journey to Illinois.
Image
Driving through Utah is so beautiful.
There is so much to see!
Image
My view of my two loves.
(Notice Olivia is sleeping!)
Image
Here...in this very picture is where our long 3 day journey got even longer.
Olivia was very, Very, VERY fussy.
We eventually pulled off the road and into a rest stop to feed her.
I picked her up from her car seat and lo and behold,
Mess.
She had messed all over!
What a fun way to begin a trip.
No way of washing clean her seat,
so the little one sat on napkins for the rest of the day.
Image
A view from all round so we will forever remember
our frustrations of those moments.
What a pretty spot to be so frustrated, right?
Image
We eventually made it into Colorado.
Denver was our first night's stop.
We just had to get there...
Image
Soon after entering into Colorado,
Olivia was once again fussy.
(Her fussiness was really a surprise to us.
She had always enjoyed riding in the car.)
We pulled off the freeway to soothe her.
Image
We were getting some smiles out of our girl!
We had to keep making progress in our journey,
so it was back in her car seat and back on the road we went.
Olivia continued to be fussy,
(and by fussy I mean screaming at the top of her lungs,
 barely stopping for air),
and we continued to make stops
to try our best to soothe her and ourselves.
(Geez, all this fussiness was beginning to get to her parents.)
Long story and a very long day later (14 hours since starting the drive)
we made it to our hotel at midnight.
I don't think I will ever think about Colorado the same again.
Boo.
Upon getting to the hotel,
I was not sure that I wanted to continue on our journey.
I wanted to stay right there
and not have to endure and more "fun" in the back seat.
However, we pressed onward...
Image
Upon leaving Colorado and entering Nebraska,
our little girl was a little happier.
She and I both slept in the back seat for two hours during the morning.
Image
And she surprised us greatly by sleeping
the last four hours of our journey too.
I was feeling much better
about finally meeting our destination the following day.
Image
Iowa (I was asleep when we crossed to border) was much like Colorado.
Olivia was fussy and needed many breaks
to be held and loved by her parents.
One stop included the World's Largest Truckstop!
Image
Here she is at another one of our stops,
enjoying the humidity and sporting her Illinois onesie to arrive in style.
Image
Once we crossed the border into Illinois,
Olivia was once again on her sleeping pattern.
Olivia slept until we arrived at our new apartment!
I will forever love Utah, Nebraska, and Illinois
for taking good care of us on our journey.
Colorado and Iowa I am less fond of
and do not look forward to returning to any time soon.

I think we were all very glad to have those three days behind us,
and on the plus side we are really enjoying where we are now!
Image
Olivia loves Illinois!!
We are settling into our new home and our loving our new little space.

(And on a side note, Livy is still fussy when we put her into her carseat.
Gone our the days of using the car to soothe her into sleep.
Thank goodness we are sneaky parents
and have other tricks to lull her into sleep.)

I'll Be Seeing You

Image
Joe and I spent our last night in Salt Lake with both of our families.
We had a lovely dinner and spent time playing with the kids.
Here is almost everyone.
Image
My whole side of the family.

 Joe's side of our family.
(Miss you Alisa, Euan, Eleanor, Charlotte, James, and Katie.)

 The cousins!
Mae (4.5), James (2), and Livy (2 months)
Image
We really wanted to snap a picture of Olivia in front of
 Mt. Olympus before we left.
Mission accomplished.
Image
 Our family.
Off to travel and and have an adventure or two.
Image
We are as happy as can be!!
(Livy was so sad to have to part from her loving family.)
