A digital display showing an “Athlytic Age” of 22.7, which is 9.2 years younger than the actual age of 31. The section lists various health metrics: Resting Heart Rate at 55 bpm, VO2 Max at 48 ml/kg/min, Heart Rate Recovery in 2 minutes at 70 bpm, and Weekly Steps of 106,519. Each metric shows a comparison to a range, indicating improvement in years.

Nick Heer: ‘Tim Cook Attends Screening of Propaganda for Authoritarian’s Wife’

Cook, though? He was there because he wanted to be. This was on the same day that, as Stuart writes, agents of the U.S. government murdered a second citizen in Minneapolis in three weeks, and then lied about it. Renée Good and Alex Pretti both embodied courage. Cook chose fealty and, ultimately, cowardice.

Indeed.

New toy, new place! Having the best time on western ice at @ourayicepark. Fun to get a new perspective on my own climbing. Thanks to @bbrianandersonn for the belay. 🙂 More to come, for sure.

Lots of preparation and hiking the high peaks in every season helps keep my internal compass honed for the trails no matter the conditions. They’re sometimes tricky, but I work hard to keep us pointed in the right direction. 🙂

As of a few days ago, I had hundreds of drafted notes in Drafts. They were ideas, tasks, quotes, and in-progress blog posts saved over years. But out of sight, they were out of mind. I finally cleared them out, moving most to Things as actual tasks, transferred some to Apple Notes for long-term storage, and archived the rest. I’m making a fresh go at staying on top of my tasks with Things, and Drafts will be simply “where text starts” — not where it stays.

Watched: Station Eleven 📺

At first, I found this series kind of hard to get into. I’m all about the post-apocalyptic series, and I liked the angle this has following the Traveling Symphony. But it didn’t click with me right away. In fact, it wasn’t until the finale that I was sure if I even liked the show. But I found myself yelling at the TV, desperately wanting resolution to some of the arcs. And my heart ached in some of the outcomes. I realized how much I’d grown invested in the story its characters. I’ll be thinking about this one a lot in the years to come, I think. 👍

Hey, don’t forget that you can change the metrics shown during specific workout types on Apple Watch. I finally got around to adding elevation and pace to my hiking workout screen — two things I’m always getting asked while guiding — so now I can check them without scrolling through all the views.

So…I liked most of the characters, some of the time. Frustrated by many choices they made, but nobody’s perfect. I unexpectedly came away with much more empathy and respect for OnlyFans work. I’m cautiously optimistic for the upcoming show.

Gnarly day up on Mt. Colden with Todd for his 40th/46 winter high peak! We were the first at the trailhead, so we had the pleasure of breaking trail through knee deep snow all the way way to the summit. Still, it was a stunning day in the mountains, and with careful precautions, the dropping wind chill was manageable. Only 6 left!

Huge day yesterday! Pre-dawn uphill ski at Whiteface with Sarah and Dan, followed by super fun climbing on Multi Gully with Lizzo. One of my favorite ADK multipitch ice routes! Rounded out the evening with a bunch of hours with the rad crew of @adkclimb.club on Poke-O-Moonshine’s steep and long Waterfall routes. What a privilege to be outside all day doing cool things with cool people. 😁

I plugged in my GoPro from 2014 today, intending to start using it again for some helmet cam footage. I managed to update the firmware despite it no longer being supported, but the date selector still only goes to 2025… LOL I guess they didn’t expect someone to keep using it for over 10 years!

What a fucking masterpiece. 🎵

Preparation for climbing a winter high peak begins long before reaching the trailhead! We see our guests as teammates, and each of us should be well-versed on what to expect out in the mountains. It gives our team a higher chance for a successful summit! Thanks for being a great teammate, Julie! 🙌

Jarrod is an excellent guide. Even before the hike he gave me valuable advice on the necessary equipment and the route. He regularly updated me on the weather forecast. On the day of the hike he handled the navigation and was very proactive. He is also very patient. I highly recommend him.

Incredible ski day! ⛷️ I had the pleasure of joining @jmhaas73 and team for very productive ski guide training on the Angel Slides, and then @highpeaksskiup for a true gem of a Nordic ski back on the home turf. The snow was so good!!

A wild day up in the High Peaks! Todd nabbed his 38th and 39th winter summits on Gothics and Saddleback. You really can’t overstate how different those two peaks are. Gothics was steep, exposed, and mega windy — almost blew out packs off the mountain! We opted for a roped descent through the steepest and iciest bit. Saddleback was a cakewalk with consistent slope and powdery snow by comparison! But Todd did awesome. Every ascent is unique!

Neurosis (WI4-) with Shane today. What a route! P1 was thin and hollow for the first third, but got progressively better. P2 & P3 were generally fat and happy. P4 was steep and hard. So good!

Nick Heer: ‘A Lament for Aperture, the App We’ll Never Get Over Losing’

Times change, though, and it seems like Apple has lost the soul of what made Aperture excellent. It should really figure out what that is. Questionable user interfaces, mediocre icon design, tolerance for lagginess and bugs — these are all bad things, but they are symptoms of a greater loss.

Another fine day spent in the mountains assisting someone on their winter 46er journey. Today, Julie and I tackled Seward Mountain after we turned around on it last week. This time, we enjoyed bluebird skies, bright sun, fresh snow, and single-digit temps In other words, a winter wonderland! We got it done in under 11 hours, and thoroughly enjoyed every minute, including pushing through all those thick branches and deep snow up top! 😁
