Dipping my toes back into writing on this blog after an almost decade long hiatus. Looking back through some old posts makes me mad that I haven't kept up with this little digital diary! My little family has been keeping busy for all these years so I don't quite no where to start or where this will go. I have nearly 10 years of trips and memories to make up for here and that feels pretty overwhelming. For this post, I think we'll just skip back to Christmas 2024, mostly because it was somewhat recent and because I already downloaded the photos ha!
After a short visit to my parents' house in northern GA for the holiday, we traveled to Tybee Island, a pretty little barrier island just beyond Savannah for a little sightseeing in a new place. The weather wasn't great, cloudy and cool, with intermittent rain, but also not terrible given it was the end of December. Our first day was spent in Savannah, where we basically parked at the visitor's center, grabbed a tourist map, and walked around for the entire day exploring the sights, sounds, and smells of the city! Savannah is a pretty cool town with lots of history and old architecture, very easy to walk around, and definitely a place I'd like to visit again. We toured a couple museums and churches, walked through a historic cemetery, and ate seafood at The Pirate's House.
The next day we explored Fort Pulaski National Monument, on Cockspur Island (between Savannah and Tybee Island). Its claim to fame is the the Union was able to breach the brick walls with rifled cannons and forced the Confederates to surrender.
Then we spent some time exploring Tybee Island itself. We climbed to the top of the Tybee Island Light Station, ate dinner amongst the alligators at The Crab Shack, and walked along the beach. We packed a lot in a little time and it refreshed the soul!
