There is much recent attention on the occurrence of myocarditis following COVID-19 vaccination. Two recent case series provide new data.
In one study, Duke investigators describe seven patients who had acute myocarditis during Feb. to April 2021, including four who had recently received mRNA vaccines. Of these four patients, three were young men (aged 23–36 years) and one was an older woman (aged 70 years). Two of the patients had received the Moderna vaccine and two the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine. All four presented with severe chest pain and were hospitalized within 5 days of their second vaccine dose.
