Camping Fail!

We’ve been trying to go real camping for quite awhile now, but things just kept coming up and it never happened. We started a few months ago by camping in our living room, then in Great Grandma Jensen’s backyard while we were in UT this summer. But this time it was the the real deal, in the middle of October it finally happened and we went camping at Garner State Park. It was a beautiful area and so fun to be in the outdoors together.

While we were setting up camp; Kennedy runs over to this rock, sits down and says, “Hey mom, take a picture of me here.” And posses like that…I guess we take too many pictures of her :)Can you tell she loves these rain boots?  She wears them all the time!

DSC_0012After setting up camp, we put a cake in the dutch oven and headed down to the beautiful river to explore. We had plans to go play in it the next morning, but I’m glad we checked it out when we did.DSC_0020DSC_0031Closest thing we’ll get to a mountain and color changing leavesDSC_0043DSC_0046

Kennedy loved her princess chair I got for free at Kohl’s. She was also a big fan of the flashlight and made sure I knew who all the princesses were.DSC_0047Zak sacrificing his hand popping the Jiffy Pop for usDSC_0050

Yummy Dutch Oven Chocolate Mud Cake

We also tried out our 72 hour kit meals along with the cake. Then we enjoyed sitting around the fire, the cooler TX weather and looking at the stars together.

Sounds like a perfect night right?  It was until about 10:30 that night when we awoke to Kennedy puking all over the sleeping bags and ME! Zak was spared so he cleaned us up, thank goodness we brought extra blankets! Unfortunately this was repeated the rest of the night, it was awful! Needless to say we were all pretty exhausted the next morning, and I woke up with the nasty bug, so we decided to head for home. It was a long 1.5 hour drive being sick…DSC_0054

A Tangled Halloween

Kennedy loves the movie Tangled, so this year we decided to go with that theme for our family costumes. It was kind of a fun adventure searching the local thrift shops for some of mine and Zak’s costumes, and then we had fun sewing them together one night. When my mom came to visit in October, she helped me make Kennedy’s Rapunzel hair, we had fun doing it together. I even straightened her hair for the finishing touch on her costume.DSC_0260Flynn Rider, Rapunzel and Mother GothelDSC_0257The Princesses; Kaylee, Kennedy and AllieDSC_0164

I think Zak fit the part very well!  What do you think?

It was a very fun Halloween this year, Kennedy definitely makes all the Holidays way more fun!

DSC_0175Love that cute smile!

It’s tradition to get pictures of Kennedy in her costume sitting by pumpkins in our house, we’ve done it every year since she was a pumpkin at 3 months old. So we had to get some this year too!

She looks so much older with her hair straight, it didn’t last very long though, after one nap the curls were back.DSC_0237

Fun Tangled Halloween memories for sure!

Pumpkin Patch

It’s a tradition to go to this pumpkin patch every year, so on Monday we headed over for our FHE activity. We had fun looking at all the pumpkins and of course had to get some pictures. This place is right by our church building, so we see it a couple times a week and Kennedy gets excited every time we pass it, so it was fun to actually stop this time.

DSC_0059Out of all the pumpkins, the first one she ran up to was this bumpy old green one. It reminded me of some funny pumpkins that used to grow in my grandpa’s garden, he grows a ton of pumpkins every year and the grandkids get to go and choose one, fun times.DSC_0064What a cheeser!DSC_0077She thought this smiley pumpkin was pretty funny!DSC_0090

She loved all the baby pumpkins and the ones with bumps.DSC_0092       DSC_0094

She’s really into playing with her dolls lately so she got really happy when she found this one and said, “Look mom it’s my baby pumpkin.”  I think it’s so sweet how she is lovingly looking at her “baby” pumpkin.

DSC_0113Kennedy and I have taken a picture in this same spot the past 3 years, so we had to do it again.DSC_0139Kennedy found lots of BIG pumpkins at the patch.DSC_0141This picture gave Zak and I a good laugh. Just before this she saw some other kids taking some pictures in this frame, so as soon as they left she ran over and grabbed a baby pumpkin and said “Dad take my picture in this!” and then posed like that holding her pumpkin up. Haha

We sure love this sweet girl!

Helotes Fall Festival

We got a groupon for the Helotes Fall Festival and decided to go check it out the beginning of October. We were a bit disappointed with the festival, but Kennedy loved the bounce houses and train/hay rides, so I guess in that case it was a success.DSC_0973

She was terrified of bounce houses last fall, so I’m glad she likes them now, she could’ve spent all day in them!

She was too nervous to go down on her bum at first, but we finally got her to turn around and go face forward. She gave us some good laughs going down this slide!DSC_0987

Excited to go on the orange train rideDSC_0990She even got dad to go on both the rides with her.DSC_0997DSC_0999Happy Fall!  We are finally getting some cooler fall weather here in Texas and enjoying it!

Peaches & Enchanted Rock

During the Fourth of July weekend we went and picked peaches at an orchard in Fredericksburg.  This is the same place where we picked strawberries this spring. Zak’s family had a peach orchard growing up and they still have a few trees, so he always loves fresh picked peaches and he knew just how to pick the good ones!DSC_0302Daddy taught Kennedy…aka “Peaches” how to pick the perfect peach! When Kennedy was born her aunt Tracy started calling her Peaches and ever since then Tracy and Gma Barb have been calling her Peaches and it’s kind of stuck! So it was only appropriate that Kennedy learn how to pick the finest peaches!DSC_0306Daddy and Kennedy very pleased with her pick!DSC_0300DSC_0313Peaches proud of her peaches!DSC_0323Best family picture we could getDSC_0326DSC_0339

Enchanted Rock

After picking peaches we headed over to Enchanted Rock (the closest thing to a mountain here) for a nice little family hike. We had a great time together!

DSC_0348Before we started our hike, we saw this crazy car covered in blown glass, signs and all kinds of trinkets in the parking lot. It was pretty interesting to look at! DSC_0351DSC_0355

Kennedy started out doing a little walking, but ended up being carried most of the way.DSC_0362Taking a break in the shade with dadDSC_0365DSC_0373We made it to the top.
