About Kell

ImageSome of my cross stitch stash

I’m a self-confessed bibliophile living in the North East of Scotland with my lovely non-bookworm hubby and baby son (who I am determined will love books as much as I do!). My favourite pastime is, and always has been, reading (closely followed by writing, so reviewing is a lot of fun too).

Recently, though I found myself returning to an old favourite pastime – one which had fallen by the wayside some six or seven years ago – cross stitch.

I used to cross stitch a lot in my teens, but I found myself stitching less and less often as time went on, till eventually I stopped. After the birth of my son, a friend gave me a Winnie the Pooh sampler with his name and date of birth on it and I remembered how much I used to enjoy cross stitching. Then someone mentioned cross stitch on the book forum where I am admin and that was it – I had to pick up my old hobby!

Since then, I’ve been accumulating various pieces to add to my stash and although I don’t have much free time to myself, I try to do at least a few stitches every day, even if I only get to do it for five minutes. As a result, my current projects are all small ones where I can see quick progress and feel I’m actually accomplishing something with them, but I plan to tackle increasingly larger and more challenging projects as I get more time and confidence.

So, this is my little corner where I’ll keep track of how my cross stitching is progressing…

  4. I have just read through some of your non-stitchy stuff and love the book reviews!! As soon as Xander can sit up in the tub — read to him while he plays with his rubber ducky, read him stories at bed time, nap time at whatever time. My children went through that with me and now my daughter is doing it to her three sons and yet I am still surprised when my grandchildren visit they either insist on bringing a book with them, or make me comb my shelves of classics for something that will interest them. They refuse to go to bed at my house unless one of us will read to them first. All of them could read before first grade and continue with their early love of reading even when the other children nag at them for it. We’ve never “forced” a child to read, but all our family has a deep love and appreciation of books because it started as a do-it-together activity. (They particularly like it when the electricity goes out because we’ll grab candles and see who can read the best in the dark!)

    • I’m afraid I didn’t stitch that piece, so I can’t help. I do not know the design or the designer, but if you contact the blog host using the email that is shown on the site, I’m sure they can tell you who stitched it and perhaps give you more information.
