Stiches

Today hayden, lacy, kasiah, lisa, and lexi went swimming at the pool. Well when kasiah was with hayden playing he dove into the pool only really close to the ladder. He hit his head very hard on the ladder he came up he started bleeding badly on his forhead. Once we got him all cleaned up I called my mom and dad. Once they came my dad looked at it and said he hit his head clear down to his skull. He was very scared he had to get 4 stiches he is a very brave boy for going through with that. We are all just happy he is ok! P.S. some pictues might be on the way maybe.

Destination....Dallas!

In the midst of her blogging frenzy, Kasiah seems to have forgotten the trip to Dallas that Lacy, my mom, and I took during the middle of June - so I'm here to fill ''ya'll'' in. The conference we attended was originally supposed to be in May, but had to be rescheduled due to the swine flu. So, even one month later, we were still able to enjoy the sweltering heat, mind numbing humidity, and the company of our friends from across the nation. We got see the Sixth Floor Museum (where Kennedy was shot), become honorary Texans, visit the Dallas World Aquarium (where there is way more than just fish.....we saw sharks, sea turtles, and got pooped on by birds), and go to SIX FLAGS.

Oh, and we also placed eighth nationwide in our Economic Research Team event. But the competition was just an excuse to get us to Texas :)

BPA SLC

Image

I know, the title has a lot of acronyms....But our BPA State Leadership Conference came to a successful close March 12-14. In the interest of saving time, I will (attempt to) quickly go over the highlights of this trip that was (for me) over a year in the making!...

---------------------

I got to go up to Boise a day early to prepare for the conference, and mom and Hayden were able to come with :) We stayed at the nicest hotel in Boise, and Hayden was able to see just what goes on "behind the scenes." One of the highlights of that day was going to Joe's Crabshack. I thought it smelled disgusting, but Hayden liked his shrimp:

Thursday, while I was in meetings, preparing for the conference, etc., Lacy, mom and Hayden all got to go to the zoo, where they had a fantastic time! :

The National Secondary President attended our conference, which was really cool! He absolutely fell in love with Hayden, calling him the "cutest kid in existance," which is exactly what we think of him, too :)

**Sorry about the weird layout of this picture - I was just too lazy to change it.

Lacy and I both had two competitions to go to. She competed in Advanced Spreadsheet, and I competed in Extemporaneous Speech. Then, we both did an Economic Research Project Team.

All of our hard work ended up paying off, too - we placed 1st at state with our Econ. Project, beating out fourteen other teams from around Idaho!!!!!

I also placed 1st in the state in my Extemporaneous speech (a huge surprise that I wasn't expecting!).

So Lacy and I will both make the trip to Dallas, Texas in May for the National Leadership Conference!!!! We're most excited about getting to go to Six Flags Over Texas, which is the national special event this year!!!

It was really depressing for me to leave my position and my officer team, but the loss was made sweeter by the fact that I have one last BPA trip to look forward to - and this time, Lacy can go too!! May 5th cannot come fast enough!

#1

Today, Lacy and Carlie competed in a National History Day Competition. The theme for the competition was an important individual in history. They chose to do theirs on Dwight D. Eisenhower. They saved it to the very last minute and did most of their project last night! They presented their board in front of judges and then were asked questions about it. The girls competed against about 20 other groups, and ended up placing 1st. Great job girls!Image

Really behind...

Image
...on my blogging. I think this is the first time that I've even looked on here for months, let alone post something. But earlier this month (actually on the 19th) my mom and I got to go on another trip to Boise!

As the BPA State President, I was able to go to the 2009 Idaho PTE Legislative Luncheon. Basically, representatives from all of the student organizations (BPA, DECA, FFA, etc.) were able to meet with legislators and businesspeople from around the state to meet them and discuss legislative issues and talk about how PTE (Professional Technical Education) has helped them. It was all with the goal of preventing PTE from getting such large budget cuts...so I was basically acting as a junior lobbyist. But the whole experience was really amazing!

We drove into Boise a day early, did some shopping, and then got to spend the night at Aunt Sherie's house!! It was so much fun to be able to visit again and get caught up, and I only wish that we had an excuse to stay another night!! Aunt Sherie, my mom wants your e-mail or phone number and she'll call you and tell you how my grandpa's appointment went.

The next morning was early, because we had to go and find our parking places (we got permission to park in the legislators' private parking lot) and find the room where I had to meet to go over proper conduct, how to kiss up to the legislators, etc. I got to sit next to Rep. Nonini from Coer d'Alene, and he was really interested about my life, goals, etc. It was very nice to be able to talk to him. I also got to say a large part in the script, and got my picture with the governor!!!! Check that one off my list of goals.
But I digress...we're all doing well: the funeral home openhouse went splendidly, my mom got her Primary breakfast finished, and I got my last big scholarship finished (results for others are supposed to be forthcoming). We'll try to update with more news as it comes. Love you all!

Serious Errors

Image
So there have been some serious errors in the judging for BPA. Apparently the group of judges that judged the financial related items simply put the teams and individual on the ranking sheet in order of the presentations and did not actually rank the students. So....instead of Carlie and Lacy not placing, THEY GOT FIRST PLACE!! They are SOOO excited and we are very proud of them!

BPA Regionals

BPA (Business Professionals of America) Regionals were today in Burley. Carlie and Lacy both competed. Carlie placed 2nd in Impromptu Speech and Lacy placed 3rd in Advanced Spreadsheet Application. They also did an Economic Research Project together but didn't place for that. They were pretty upset, because they thought they did pretty well, but are both going to state for their other events. They also get to sing the National Anthem at state, and maybe, if they're lucky, at Nationals! We are proud of them and the things they have accomplished. Way to go girls.

Little Update

Sorry I haven't blogged anything for a while. We have been sooooo busy. Two weeks ago we all went up to Nyssa Oregon for Grandma and Grandpa Savage's 50th Wedding Anniversary! It was a blast and it was so fun to see all of our family. We have also been very busy over at the funeral home. It finally opened at the end of December. Kerry has been very busy doing last minute things and getting ready for his open house on January 27. Natalie also had her 40th birthday on December 31! Boy is she getting old. Here is a picture of the Savage family at the party. Stay tuned for more pictures of December....Image
