I have been singing with an interfaith choir as part of our stake music activities. That's how I met the polygamist TV reality star a few posts back. Here is a video recap. Nobody show Toshiko how flat my fingers are on that piano. She would be so ashamed. I can still feel her grabbing my hands and curving my fingers for me. Ah, the things teenagers will do to rebel a little and grow out their nails with blue polish...and learning how to play the piano with nails as a result. Boom.
United in song from ElevenNews on Vimeo.
You can also see my blonde hair peek out from the back corner of the choir on the songs I wasn't accompanying.
Yesterday, we performed in the Provo Community United in Christ Church for their Sunday services. Afterward, Dave the director asked if I could sightread a few songs for a fellow choir member (and accompanist) so he could hear her sing them and choose one for the Christmas concert. She placed a Kurt Bestor arrangement on the piano for me, and I played through it. It was pretty weird as far as musicality goes, but totally signature Kurt Bestor. I made a witty comment somewhere in the middle: "This is SOOOOO Kurt Bestor." Most fellow pianists would have laughed along and agreed with me, because we ALL know the agony/love that is Bestor music. She was no exception. The girl laughed and said, "I know, right?"
When we finished that and another song, Dave said, "I loved them. I definitely want you to sing a few of your dad's songs, though." I asked, "Oh, who is your dad?"
"Kurt Bestor."
Well... great. FILTER, LINDSEY!

Well, this is a first...
I get asked to play the piano for many different events. This time, the request was something to go in the history books of the Life of Lindsey:
*RING RING*
Me: Hello?
Rosemary: Hi, Lindsey, this is Rosemary Williams. I arranged the song you played for us at the interfaith choral concert. We met briefly. I don't know if you remember.
Me: Yes, I remember.
Rosemary: Sorry, I got your number from the event leader. I hope that's okay.
Me: Sure. What's up?
Rosemary: Well, I know this is a really strange request, but I, uh... I'm on a television show, and we need someone to come play the piano for it tomorrow night. Are you free?
Me: Oh, I have some appointments that I can't really change, but maybe... What is the show?
Rosemary: It's called "My Five Wives."
Me: -pause-
Me: Okay, well, let me know if nobody else can do it, and I'll see what I can do.
Rosemary: Okay, thank you, bye.
Me: Bye.

Hey, an update!
- J&H (see this post) is engaged. He went through a dark time after me, then wooed another ward member (he told her he loved her as well), then moved to Vegas when that didn't work out. Two weeks later, he was in a committed relationship, and another week or two after that, he got engaged. Just... thought you'd all like to know... I hope it works out for them.
- We sold the yellow house. We are ready for the new family (10 kids!) to make memories there, but it is still pretty bittersweet. We went through a few days of crazy packing/moving/cleaning, and we are still in shock that we got it done. Thank you to EVERYONE who helped out!!
- My parents decided to keep the piano in the family!! I am so grateful for/to them, and we are keeping it at my condo for now! I LOVE IT!!!
- I went through a crazy illness that attacked my nervous system, and was out of commission almost the entire month of May. I'm still dealing with residual effects, and will be for several months at least. Let's just say I hit my $2500 health insurance out-of-pocket-maximum this year. I also had to miss a surprise trip to Washington for Head's b-day AND Mother's Day, which was pretty devastating. Delta waived the change fee, though, since I was in the ER for pre-syncope episodes. Thanks, Delta.
- Spencer graduated MED SCHOOL!! He is currently doing his surgery residency in NYC! ♪Concrete jungle where dreams are made of... ♪ We are so proud of him. Our entire family (minus in-laws) was able to be there for it. I was sick, but wouldn't have missed it for the world. A huge THANK YOU to my dear parents who drove to Utah to help me out, take me to doc appts, and drive me to Vegas (even though they had planned to fly there). I couldn't have done it without you guys. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Love you so much!! I even managed to stand up for family photos.
- I have the greatest friends and family in the world. That is all.
- Caitlyn's brother needed a pianist for a dinner his office was holding, and I got to do it! It was my first-ever paying gig, and I got $90 for about an hour of playing. I really wish I could do that more. I loved it. I'm not a fancy Nordstrom pianist, but I can sit down and whip out elevator music for an hour or two. One guy came up and asked if I could play Piano Man, which I thought was weird since I was just doing soft background music for a nice dinner. I told him no, and he asked, "What about Ben Folds?" Go away.
- Malibu Stacy got in her fifth car accident since I bought her seven years ago. This was the first time I've been in it when it has been hit. Isn't that ridiculous? That sweet car has stood up to more pain and anguish than it deserves. This was my fourth car accident ever, and, as always, was not my fault. The other driver couldn't see his light turn red because of the sun, and he rammed into my side as I went through the intersection at my green light. I don't really understand how the Malibu hasn't been totaled, and how I've never been seriously injured. I am sure grateful for that.
- I got an anonymous gift at work from the pink post-it caper, as I will refer to him. I still don't know who did it, but I have a good idea... It was so cute and totally made my day. I put that post-it on my monitor so I can see it every day and smile. Chocolates? Yes, please. Ghiradelli? Marry me.
- Last, but not least, I have a great life. I have challenges, but they bring me closer to God, and I am really grateful for that. Thanks for reading!

Best. Aquaveo. Voicemail. Ever.
My company does water modeling software - so sometimes we come up on Google when people do a search for modeling agencies. I get calls from girls sometimes - all with the same exact voice inflection - "Ummm yah, like, are you guys a modeling agency?" This voicemail, however is my favorite. I hope you remember the other voicemail post here - those are pretty good as well. Please enjoy the newest professional phone message that has had me giggling all morning. A perfect way to start a Monday!!
Turn the volume up - it tends to be quiet. If it won't let you view it here, try this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V6YzoJKRh-0

This Afternoon's Project
Since we're cleaning out and selling the yellow house (cue lots of sobbing), my mom is throwing away all the VHS tapes (or, as my tech-savvy nephew calls them - "Brick DVDs"). I was grabbing a DVD of Charlie's Angels (sometimes I get really really weird movie cravings, deal with it) at the yellow house, and came across my childhood home video VHS. Side-note - Stevie and Carli should remember which Angel they were, and maybe the nostalgia of those days is what made me crave it. Stevie - do you have that photo of us still? I need it, like, really a lot much super.
Thanks to my incredible filmmaker father, who got his new camera equipment right before I came into the world, I have lots of great footage dating back to literally the day I was born! I cherish this video! Thank you, dad!!
Anyway, after a little research - AKA google VHS to DVD transfer - I found out that the BYU Library (whatup, HBLL!) lets you convert your videos for free. This is super great because I'm poor.
I started working on my little super-talented-graphic-artist-I-failed-Photoshop DVD case insert today. I'm keepin' it!
In totally unrelated news, I'm looking for a free (see above for income specifications) DVD insert that someone else makes for me for a home video DVD I'm converting from a VHS. This person should have graphic design proficiency and also really like to laugh. Danke.

The Cuddler Riddler
My weekend is basically one big question mark, as appropriately shown on the Riddler's costume. He kind-of reminds me of the Cuddler, too, actually... The hair, the glasses, the skinny fingers...
Saturday night, I got a text from my friend Ryan inviting me to come to a Hunger Games: Catching Fire movie night at our friend Ellis's new place. Ellis used to be in our ward, but moved across the street into another stake/ward/life. If you watch Parks and Rec, Deer Haven is Pawnee. Pioneer is Eagleton. I live in Deer Haven, but have a lot of Leslie Knope Pawnee pride. Ellis moved into Pioneer. Traitor. Snob.
I used to have a crush on Ryan, so I was a little taken aback by this. When I first moved in, I was smitten. He is tall, dark, and handsome (like 6'7" I think). He is my next door neighbor. I tripped in heels and fell on my butt right in front of him one of my first weeks here. I knew it was true love.
Then, I got to know him and the crush quickly diminished. Suddenly, I realized, he only talked to me in Star Wars quotes. Next, please.
So I responded to Ryan that I was tired and had a long day, blah blah blah, would it be worth it... to which he responded "worth it."
I figured he must have really wanted me there, so I decided to go. "Save me a seat."
When I got there, I was the only girl. Matt, Kenny, Jared, and Ellis were on the wrap-around couch. Ryan was on a love sac by himself. Beside him was another love sac, totally empty. Plus, he was in the middle of his, so I would have had to ask him to move over if I wanted to sit with him. Too awkward, and I didn't want to let Ryan think this was some sort of cuddlefest night. So, I sat on the empty love sac. Another girl came later and sat on the couch with the rest of the boys.
About an hour later, I heard someone making comments behind the couch. I turned and saw a guy, very nerdy-hipster looking, with glasses and tallish hair, standing there alone. I figured he must be Ellis's roommate. I said, "Hey dude, you can come sit down. We have lots of space down here." Mysterious stranger replied "No, if I sit, then I have to watch the whole movie." "Okay, whatever dude."
60 seconds later, I let out a huge scream as mysterious stranger's body flung over my head and onto the love sac right next to me. He had jumped over me entirely. I said, "DUDE! If you had kicked me in the face, that would have been... hilarious." He said, "One time, I went to put my arm around my girlfriend, and I broke her glasses with my elbow." Ouch.
Mysterious stranger then turned into mysterious cuddler. I am NOT a cuddler. I hate the word "cuddle" or "snuggle" or "tickle" (shudder) - unless, you know, I really like the guy, or something. I was not prepared for the evening to take a dramatic turn.
During one scary scene, he put his hand on my leg. He moved closer to me. He pushed his leg against mine. During another scene, he took my arm in his. He was so smooth about it, acting scared. I was dumbfounded as this has never happened to me before with a complete stranger. He was either really gutsy or really psycho. So, I decided that if he tried to actually hold my hand, I would straight-up tell him "Hey, man, I don't know you..." and take my hand away... but thankfully, he just stuck to what he was already doing. I knew, of course, that Ryan could see this happening - that Matt, Kenny, Mary, Jared, and Ellis could see it. It was, in a word, a.w.k.w.a.r.d.
Finally, when the movie ended, The Cuddler got up and left without a word. I took my time getting up, as I was still in a bit of a daze, and realized that Ryan and Matt, who live by me, had already left without me and were making me walk home in the dark by myself. Turds.
I caught up to them down the road and said with a laugh, "Hey, thanks for waiting for me, guys!" Ryan said, "Well we didn't know..." and Matt said, "We thought you were maybe staying the night or something." WHOA, WHAT?! I know they were joking... but I was super uncomfortable, so I played it off as if it were nothing - which it absolutely was - and said, "Oh yeah, me and Ellis... you know us." Hopefully that let them see that whatever just happened with Ellis's roommate was nothing, and Ryan walked me home.
I'm sure The Cuddler thought he would never see me again.
He was wrong.
Can I just say I'm glad I'm not engaging in sexual activities outside of marriage? The day-after-the-pseudo-cuddle-night was awkward enough.
Krystal and I booked it out of there afterward.

2014
Today's realization:
"Hmm I sure wish all my friends and family would update their blogs - what are they thinking? Wait, I think I might have a blog somewhere on the interwebs too... Oh yeah! Maybe if I update, so will they."
A lot happened since the last post, so in true Lindsey fashion, you get a bulletpoint list!
- I did go out with "Elton" and it was 45 minutes long because he had to go to choir practice and I let him. It took us weeks to finally go out, anyway, and I wasn't looking forward to it anymore.
- I got asked out by four guys in this timeframe. When it rains, it pours.
- One was just a friendly dinner because we're good friends. Nothing there.
- One was more like a joke because I accused him of never having real conversations and only banter and I guess he was showing me he could be more by asking me out on the spot. I'm glad we didn't even end up going on that date, as he is now exclusively dating my friend.
- One was Elton.
- And the last one is a dear boy who we will refer to as "Jekyll" - and I also was simultaneously dating the same boy (yet completely different) who we will refer to as "Hyde"...
- J&H, for short, was as forward as they come. Within the first two minutes of our meeting at a ward activity, he told me he would marry me. Two hours later (and after the rest of the ward had been home for 1.5 hours), sweet Jekyll started dancing with me in the church parking lot. Jekyll came over another night and played my piano while he sang to me and inserted my name in rap songs. Jekyll made me dinner one Sunday night and then invited himself to come to my cousin Tabitha's birthday dinner that night. He met Oma, Tom, Chris, the crew - schmoozed up to them like crazy - played Johnny Cash for Tom on the guitar, recorded a guitar duet with cousin Ben, and asked me how to say "Guten Nacht" to Oma. He played with the babies Vera and Kinsley and that was the first time I genuinely liked him back.
- Jekyll told me he wanted me for Christmas.
- Jekyll sent me a song he is writing about being with ... me(?)
- Jekyll asked if we could hang out one night after seeing me in the temple. He needed a ride somewhere. In the car, suddenly, Hyde appeared. Hyde told me about the three hours/day at the gym and protein shakes he was obsessing with and told me to do positive affirmations in the mirror every morning (Stuart Smalley, anyone? I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and doggone it - people like me!), then proceeded to tell me about the girls on Tinder (look it up - yikes) and at the gym, the girls at work, etc. Hyde wasn't interested in me. He asked me about my dating history and when was the last time I made out with someone... which I didn't answer because that's ridiculous. I was crazy confused. Then I remembered him telling me that he went through a nutso time before he joined the church where he had a string of terrible experiences and was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. I thought it was related just to that time in his life. I was wrong and feel quite silly about that now.
- J&H continued to show both sides for a couple weeks of this. Jekyll came close to kissing me one night, though I wasn't keen on that and didn't let him think I was. Then Hyde told me to clean the kitchen after Jekyll made me dinner.
- Jekyll took me out the next night, and on the way back in the car, Hyde brought up Tinder and asked if he should date in the ward. I finally lost it and said "You know, when you're trying to date a girl, don't talk about other girls with her." Jekyll apologized profusely and realized how rude he was being, then told me how special I am...
- Jekyll told me he loves me.
- Hyde perked up and essentially told me he doesn't 3 minutes later - that I must have been led on, and I ended everything with both of them another 3 minutes after that. It was pretty sad, because Jekyll was really hurt, and maybe still is. It has been two months now since then, and he still looks down. He left me a voicemail the other day thanking me for my friendship. Breaks my heart, but... he'll find someone who is suited for him. Sweet Jekyll. I'll continue being his friend.
- I spent Thanksgiving in Pullman with my parents and Heather. We had a blast! We even stayed one night in Spokane because the roads iced over and we couldn't drive back. Hello, Hilton!
- I started reading (yes, me, Lindsey) fan fiction! The Hunger Games. I'm LOVING it and even stay up late reading! Gasp!
- Christmas was amazing. My parents came and Heather got surprise permission from her boss to also come, when we thought for months that she wouldn't be able to! Spencer and Caitlyn were visiting, too. I bought a Bosch mixer. My life is really coming together.
- The New Year brought some good resolutions and I joined a gym. I even went faithfully until an exciting case of bronchitis hit me so hard, I haven't had much energy in weeks.
- Teenage Lindsey resurfaced one night last week when I got up on stage at a piano bar karaoke night and sang "Say Something" with my ward friend Jed who works as a pianist/singer there and begged me to (even pulling me up there). The teenage Lindsey part refers to the swooning I did. I see a gorgeous guy who plays and sings on stage and who looks at me with "wow" eyes, and I can't help it. He said "Um, we sound really good together." Yes, yes we do. She thankfully is now tucked back into the THS choir room circa 2002 and adult (ish), real-life Lindsey is back. Here is a picture of us performing:
- I'm looking forward to February. I am going to Florida to visit HJolley and we're doing a game night dinner with a guy she has been wanting to set up with me. Then, ALL the Andersens are coming to town! We are taking advantage of the time Ryan and Marissa will be here for Marissa's sister's wedding, so everyone's coming. So excited. Erin is getting baptized here!
- You should all totally update your blogs. I love you all.
