The Vault, where old designs rest

This site has also been through the wringer a good number of times now. I launched this site under the name ‘Surgery Waste’ after I nuked my Tumblr account into oblivion in 2018 (…before crawling back in 2021, but we won’t talk about it).

The very first iteration of my site is gone, but I’ve archived the homepage of the next two phases of my site, as well as documenting the overhauls its been through.

What I think is also quite lovely is you can explore my site in the Wayback Machine, and for pre-Lethal Compound sites, you can find them at:

Combing through to try and timestamp huge reworks resulted in me being able to timestamp every significant change to my site, which was a real trip down memory lane. It also meant I coud retroactively apply a loose form of semantic versioning! Yeah, it sounds ridiculous – this is quite literally a static site. I’ve made a very deliberate decision to not include any server-side stuff. It’s a nice way to document what’s changed over time though, so I’m going with it. My take on semantic versioning is as follows:

  • MAJOR: Links/bookmarks breaking. Domain changes and mass content restructuring.
  • MINOR: Significant HTML changes
  • PATCH: Signifcant CSS/styling changes

v5.2.0 - current

  • Launched: Tue, May 12, 2026

Just a few days ago I finished work on my new home page. It’s been so, so satisfying to get it finished. I’d completely reworked what data my homepage shows, and where it pulled it from.

v5.1.2

  • Launched: Mon, Aug 26, 2024

I condensed the navigation so it wouldn’t eat as much space up. This layout would hold for nearly 2 years!

v5.1.1

  • Launched: Sun, Aug 11, 2024

Well, it finally happened. I reverted back to having green shit all over the place. The core design hasn’t changed, but I just missed the acidic green! My die-hard love for the black and green combo is just too great.

v5.1.0

  • Launched: Sun, Oct 15, 2023

I’m not fond of how the homepage focused heavily on recent posts. That’s some social media bullshit. In an effort to spotlight older posts, I brought in a wee ‘random posts’ section.

v5.0.0

  • Launched: Sat, Dec 4, 2021

The second domain shift, where I’ve been ever since! I’d split the ’new posts’ into 2 columns and shoehorn my IMVU little guy in there (who is now deceased as I was permabanned from IMVU… a story for another day, perhaps).

v4.4.0

  • Launched: Tue, Jun 15, 2021

Honestly, not much had changed here. I tried to the reduce the visual noise without ending up with too much text to stare at either. A slight shift away from the burnt orange tones to a classic red and black.

v4.3.0

  • Launched: Sun, Jan 17, 2021

I undid the content restructuring from before – I feel like it hid too much away! There’s a lot of little nooks and crannies to dive into and I wanted them to a be a little easier to access.

v4.2.0

  • Launched: Sat, Sep 26, 2020

I attempted a slight content reconstruction, I’d end up undoing not long after. Also new is the latest magazine scan and latest playlist displayed on the homepage. I tried to break up the text a bit more and get some more colour and graphics in there – most ripped from a ROM of Manhunt.

v4.1.0

  • Launched: Wed, Aug 5, 2020

A big switch-around here was removing the hard-coded TV screens from the navigation menu and instead having dynamic text. Renaming things was no longer an issue as it would reflect straight away.

v4.0.0 - 'Phase 04' or The SSG Era

  • Launched: Mon, Feb 10, 2020

The launch of Carcer City Mall, this time built with a static-site generator.

Image

v3.1.0 - 'Phase 03' (INTERACTIVE!)

  • Launched: Fri, Sep 20, 2019

I ended up separating the website sections from the recent posts. It feels a bit less crushed. This would end up being ‘Phase 03’.

Image

v3.0.0

  • Launched: Wed, Apr 17, 2019

A bit easier to maintain and way more graphics-heavy.

v2.0.0 - 'Phase 02' (INTERACTIVE!)

  • Launched: Mon, Jun 18, 2018

The first (preserved) layout of the site.
