The Drum
William and I shared many vivid moments during our lives experiencing and making music. Drumming was a deep passion for Will, and was a means by which he bonded with many souls during his short time on this Earth.
I will always look back with reverence on the many times William and I got to put aside the other parts of our lives to just focus on playing music together. As his steadfast friendship was in life to many people, Will’s drumming laid the foundation for many friends and fellow musicians to reach higher and higher possibilities within themselves. You could always count on Will to playfully guide you into those crescendo moments of a jam, and then catch you and keep you moving firmly forward on the way back down. William was a gifted rhythm man, and I feel compelled to acknowledge this part him. In dedication to my cousin William, I present the following self-authored poem called “The Drum”:
