AI-focused College proposal divides Queen’s faculty
AI-focused College proposal divides Queen’s faculty
A proposed College of Computing has become more than a debate over AI at Queen’s. The college was introduced at the April 16 Senate meeting as a notice of motion. If approved, the structure would create a new academic unit focused on interdisciplinary “X + AI” programming, pairing the School of Computing with other fields like politics, health, law, philosophy, or science. For some faculty members, the proposed college has raised broader questions about consultation, academic governance, and how quickly the University should move when creating a new academic structure.

Why no one wants to fix the housing crisis
Why no one wants to fix the housing crisis
If you own a home, the Canadian housing "crisis" isn't a crisis at all — it's the best thing that ever happened to you. And if you're wondering why governments keep announcing solutions that never quite solve anything, it’s because that’s the entire point.Between 2020 and early 2022, Canadian home prices rose 65 per cent, the second-fastest appreciation of any Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development country. Because of this, the average Canadian homeowner now holds a net worth 5 times more than the average renter.Of course, this gap has nothing to do with financial discipline or professional merit and everything to do with whether you happened to buy before the window closed.
The future of Alberta is not for Separatists to decide
The future of Alberta is not for Separatists to decide
Stay Free Alberta spent two years on a constitutional argument, but forgot to check whose land it was making it onCourt of King’s Bench Justice Shaina Leonard struck down the citizen-led petition on May 13, which sought a referendum on Albertan independence. This decision wasn’t about politics, but about principle: the province had failed in its constitutional duty to consult First Nations. The land the movement treats as an inheritance — the resources, the territory, the political identity — was never uncontestably Alberta’s to begin with. What Stay Free Alberta has assembled is less of a sovereigntist project than a prolonged expression of frustration that has mistaken volume for substance. The rhetoric is borrowed; MAGA-adjacent in its self-pity, Americanized in its framing of federal governance as inherently tyrannical.

I get a consistent stream of emails asking questions about key issues, but it’s almost exclusively after the fact. I just wish more students knew they can access this information ahead of time, show up to open session, and participate in the conversation.

Breaking news: Drake puts Queen’s back on the map
Breaking news: Drake puts Queen’s back on the map
Drake singlehandedly lifted Queen’s students spirits. Canadian icon, Drake, shouted out “Queen’s University” on one of his recent albums, Habibti, in the song, “Slap The City” featuring Qendresa, with the line, “you went to Queen’s University, now you a graduate, shout out your family them.” The Queen’s cameo has caused quite a stir, with many Queen’s students expressing excitement. “We just went up in the rankings after that,” a Reddit user wrote about the line. As well, Queen’s Rector Niki Boytchuk-Hale and Queen’s micro-influencer, Alexa Pae, both featured the song on their social medias, with Pae writing: “If Drake’s new song isn’t a sign for you to choose Queen’s University, I don’t know what is.”
